Okay I will FINALLY be able to get out this weekend and do a little fishing on the SCR. I will be fishing for walleye from shore which I have down pretty well at this point. I will be between Marine City and Algonac.

My questions are; I understand steelhead and the like are also running right now. I primarily use live bait from shore. I wouldn’t mind trying to target steelies for a change of pace this time of year. Any techniques I should try? How deep are they this time of year? How far out from shore? I’ve only ever fished for them in Lake Michigan and at the Tippy Dam, which I’m assuming is quite a bit different than the SCR from shore.

Thanks for any pointers.

simply toss out a cleo/croc/etc. If it flashes by them they will hit it. Caught them in all depths off the shore. Hopefully the water is somewhat clear when you go. Don't forget a long handled net.

You can try a noodle rod setup for using bait like minnows or crawlers and catch them also.Take and tie a leader about 4ft up from your sinker about a 2oz pryamid type and another about 7ft up.Make your leaders about 2ft long and tie two hooks inline so that you have one infront and one in back for Stinger:DHook your minnow through the nose with the front hook and the stinger hook just under the dorsel fin so it can still swim.If your fishing with night crawlers hook them up similar just hook the stinger hook about 2-3 inches down through its body. The crawler setup catches both steel and walleye.

That is exactly how I fish for my eye's! Guess I won't need to switch up my rigs too much if I'm feeling lazy. Thanks for the replies. Will have to give casting the cleos a shot as well.

I fish the boardwalk, using a 1 lb sinker with a plug on the bottom, and running another leader down to a split shot using a pink and silver spoon, the steelhead, brown and walleye will come. Long net!! :)

How long of a net do you need ? Thinking of giving it a try this year for some coho. How big of a spoon should I be casting ? Thanks. - Scott

Get at least a 12ft long handle and your 3/4 -1oz spoons should work.
