we want to try the 3 way swivel down at Maumee because losing the hook & sinker is getting add up to the bills.
so is the 3 way swivel setup legal to use? the setup basically 1 ring goes to main line, 1 ring attaches to a sinker on a leader, and the 3rd ring has the floater jig.
thanks,
-john D.

Yes, it's legal. Just like a steelhead drift rig. A lot of guys used to use that rig, myself included. Some still do. I switched to the Carolina rig. It helps avoid some snags. I'm always looking for a better rig though. I'm playing around with some steel weight right now, trying to see if they help at all. We'll see. Capnhook

Capnhook, you saying these 3-way will get more snags?
we hope the 3-way can at least save one peice (and the swivel), and easy to assemble if we pre-tie the stuffs at home (so little time, so many fish, and so cold...... :p)
hope cross path down there one of these days, as long the lines aren't.

A tip that has helped me alot steelie fishing. Instead usin a pencil lead off your line. Use a 3 way with a 8" dropper line for weight with split shot on it. Spread them out a bit. When you snag up, the split shot will slide off your line and youll get the rest back!

If fishing mono try switching over to straight 20lb Spectra braid on both your main line and leader. With the light wire hooks on most floaters you'll be able to pull free from most snags.

If you use a lighter line on your sinker dropper, it may break off there if you get snagged. If it doesn't, the sinker can strip off, and you just replace the sinker. Anything to keep from retying with frozen fingers. I think it's a personal preference thing. I will use anything that keeps me from snagging, and gets the same number of fish. Right now, I use a Carolina rig. Capnhook

Snags are gonna happen I still think the carolina rig is the way to go. I do know that there is a lot of braid haters down there they call it all spider wire and the people that use it spidermen. I myself use it beacuse I love the stuff for multiple issues. I want to have a disclamer on my vest that states "Its power pro not spider wire, I always use a mono leader, and no its not 60lb test" :)
