Been along winter for your favorite carp fisherman, But you will al be glad to hear that your trash Loving buddy is back for 2009 and back into some carp.:D
Well i got to get out of work for 4 hours today, So after trying to workout just where the carp go in cooler water on one of my local lakes I thought ill give a likely spot a try.
I rolled up at 11.15 to find the ground was still froze from the night before, I settled down and casted out the rods and spent the next hour just looking for a sign, The sign came in the way of a run and I was happy to be fighting my first 2009 Michigan carp, it tipped the scales at 18lb 12oz, I had 6 more after and as always with fishing time went to fast and it was time for me to leave.
Anyways not the best self timer photos, but here's a few of the fish from today.

No Little private piece of land that I'm fishing, I hear Belleville is fishing good for carp, but mostly smaller ones.
Its still kind of early for me, Ill like to water in the 50's before I start hardcore carping after the biggens and mirrors.

personal thoughts - you can have the millions of them out there.
they are fun to catch, but i think the bad outweighs the good. That is just my opinion. Since they are here to stay though, ya might as well have some fun with em.

I find that carp tend to be very spooky and every lake has a diffrent story. My biggest tip is to use small thick hooks as small as you can get away with but thick enough that it wont bend. On the dam where I fish they hang out right by the water discharge coming from the top and it makes them less spooked I use some splitshots darker color the better and corn for bait.

I been fishing for them over here as well. The last few days its been kinda slow. I was catching carp when there was ice still in some canals and my best day so far I landed 7 in 3 hours of fishing. Biggest around 10 pounds and chunky as could be. They are much more appealing this time of year in the ice cold water. Some of them have a slight greenish like hue to the scales and get a blood red color to the fins. Pretty neat actually.
I did a little search on LSC carp fishing and came across a Michigan Out Doors shoot from out here on the flats...... IMO best fishing is now before they go into the spawn mode and they lose that energy from spawning and get all beat up.

This time of year the shallows warm up quick during days like the ones carpman was fishing in. The fish come in to the warm water and to feeeeed.

I too, love the carp, but I shoot them with my bow, watching your vid almost makes me feel bad about killin them, But I doubt that the 100 I kill every year will have any effect on the population.
