I want to troll upstream. Any recommendations on one vs the other. I have a feeling that lead core line will not get me deep enough. I was thinking an inline trolling sinker, with the lead core line may be the ticket for trolling crank baits upstream. I would think that downriggers may be easier to control the depth however. Thoughts and comments please.

If I was you I would for sure use the lead. I'd throw out a 2, 3, and a five color. The 5 you may have to keep an eye on cause it will be hugging bottom in some places. Forget the riggers and through some dipsy's about 80 back. Lots of steelies and kings roaming around this time of year..

Down riggers are going to be easier to use going upstream. Lead is pretty thick and will create a ton of resistance so you will have a harder time getting the lure down as opposed to cannon balls. Going with the current is a different story.
