I'm new to turkey hunting. I was wondering what times should I be hunting. Are turkeys like deer in thier movement habits. Dusk & dawn? Or shoul I be packing a lunch and sit all day. When deer hunting last year I saw turkeys during dusk and dawn, but I wasn't out in the middle of the day. Any advice would be helpful.

the toms are usually the most vocal and active during the morning hours. This makes it easier to locate them. Then after the first hour after the birds fly down I believe everything calms down a little bit. But it all depends on the bird your hunting and the mood he is in. Then towards the evening the birds will head back to roost which can set up a good ambush. Also like deer and other game hot or bad weather will change the birds patterns. The moral of the story is to know what your birds are doing in the area and I would pack a lunch because you can have luck through all hours of the day.

Toms are a lot like rutting bucks. They are looking for hens. They will be anywhere in the pursuit of the Lady's. Look up a post that Thunderhead did a while back here and you can learn a ton of info that could take years to learn. Good Luck and just so you know, that first strutting Tom in close will give you a whole new addiction.

Pack a lunch and hunt all day. I have shot more then half of my birds between 11:00 AND 2:00 I'm not kidding you if you got the time hunt its nice to get back outside anyways.

I've taken all four of my tom's before 10:00 am. Its just the pattern I have over here I guess! Anyhow, like stated before know your birds habits and scout. Best advice I can give!

Your best chance at taking a mature bird is during the mid-day hours......bring a lunch and stay out there! :coolgleam

Will do. Thanks for the advise guys. Turkey hunting seems alot more technical than deer hunting. This should be interesting.
