I glued up a turkey call today, and as i was going to the barn tonight I saw about 10 birds in the field across the street, so I unclamped the call, and threw a paddle on it and started calling. First call had those toms talking, and they wouldn't shut up. I'm going out into the brush beside the field tomorrow morning to see if I can bring one in. I'll take a decoy too. It's nice having stuff you make work. I also made a slate call today but couldn't find anything to use for a striker. I took a broken fishing rod that was hollow, I think made of carbon, and this sounded good just holding the slate in my hand.

NOT a good idea if you are hunting the area. Many toms will only be called in a few times, and you are only educating the birds. If you are not hunting there, too bad for your neighbor! But when that tom comes looking around and finds nothing, or sees your lifeless decoy and finally gets sick of it, he will know!

The field across the street from my house is farm land, and where the birds come out of is oil well property, and the only people that hunt there are tresspassers/violaters, so the less people that go in there the better. I have permission to access the property from the maintenance guy that takes care of the wells, but no one can hunt leagally. The birds weren't there this morning.
