Lake Simcoe

Fished Lake Simcoe this Friday and Saturday. Everyone talks about the perch but we started out for the whities and that was awesome. We caught 3 whitefish between 24-26" in about an hour on do-jiggers and williams in 67' of water off jackson's point. We then went in to 30' and caught about 85 perch and 1 more whitefish to finish our whitey limit. Saturday went right after perch in the same spot and caught 100 perch. Best bait was minnows but the fish were full of wigglers so I am sure they would work well. Caught perch on Swedish pimples, Genz worm, forage minnows, hook and red bead, rapalas. Saturday caught another whitefish on a demon glow and perch minnow. Average perch 10" and caught 2 13" fish. Amazing fishery.

we are going this next weekend i think we are leaving thursday. what is the difference between ciscoes and whitefish? were you of jacksons point?

cisco is obviously going to be smaller, but also mouth will face a little more forward than a whitefish, and the great majority of simcoe whitefish have a clipped fin near the gill, only problem is whitefish and laketrout season closes today on simcoe, so it doesnt really matter the difference because you cant keep either of them. Tons of both over there though, just dont get caught keeping them, the MNR is pretty strict. Have fun.

...wish I could go back right now...did about the same thing but just when we were ready to go for our whities my buddies bike broke down...had a hoot with the perch...

We fished out of Jackson's point and stayed at Cobblestones B and B. The baitshops have a picture comparison of whitefish and ciscoe to help out when youre on the ice. Just in case you fish out of jackson's the 6th pine tree out is 30'.
