I'm not an expert, but I always thought that channel between Houghton and Hancock is one hell of a place for monster pike.

There is a MAJOR current through there. I know sections of Portage Lake don;t freeze up real well because of it. Gotta be careful there

Start at the park in Chassell. You don't have to go far to find fish. Superior bait shop just north of Chassell, General Store in Houghton, and Dick's Favorite sports near the mall are good places to get info. P/M me if you need help. I have a pike in the gallery I caught last year from there to get your interest up.

I haven't been out on the ice yet this year up here, I'm a little sketchy this early... maybe when I see more people. Chassel bay/Pike bay is good pike water. Rice lake... pike ane eye's with luck... RedRidge dam is full of perch... Haven't fished Gratiot lake but people do. Has anyone been walking the ice up here yet? How thick?

Checked the ice at Chassell park Saturday. It was poor, mostly frozen slush. Too scary to go out from there, although some people were farther south where it froze earlier and had a little better ice. Also a few walking out to the humps but too shaky for me. Maybe next week. Be careful!

I spent many summers on the Otter river when I was younger. Getting too old and lazy to bust brush any more and the rocks hurt my feet but there are some real nice speckle trout in there. Might go to Otter lake this week, it should have better ice than Chassell. Let me know when you get up here.

yeah the ice is pretty shady out on chassel. if you are looking for good ice you should go to bailey, there is a good 4-5 inches and we caught good numbers or northerns. i dont know about this weather, it is supposed to be warm all week.

I have yet to get out on the ice this year... stupid job get's in the way of so much.... but I will be getting out Saturday and possibly Sunday.
So, who's got good ice still in the copper country? I was thinking Redrigde but might head "inland" a little more, I hear they didn't get as much snow.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
RedRidge usually will freeze way before Chassell. Also I agree this lake is loaded with perch. Lots of smaller ones, but if you move around you can find some really nice ones in there. You also catch some trout and crappie too. I graduated about two years ago from Tech. and I used to go out there all the time. If you want some tips on spots email me at egrajews@visteon.com
