Well, with the walleye and ice season rapidly drawing to a close I have been getting out quite a bit as of lately. Been getting one to two keepers a trip on the average along with some undersized fish as well. Almost no luck at all on tip-ups and deadstick rigs. Everything coming aggressively jigging #7 and #9 jigging rapalas with yellows and whites being the hottest colors. The fish just seem to want the bait moving, and I've been using some specific jigging techniques to excite otherwise neutral fish. The last 20 fish have come this way. This morning I managed these two and stung one other fish that I didn't quite hook up. I stopped off at another launch on the way home to check out the scene and spoke with an older gentleman struggling to drag his gear of the ice. He said he hadn't caught any walleye yet this year and was pretty frustrated. I asked him if he'd like a couple fish to take home. The look on his face when I dropped these two fish in his bucket...priceless!
Hopefully, the last week will provide some more good fishing. I gotta tell you though, the boat in the garage is starting to look pretty good.
Up here in the northwest corner we still have good ice conditions and the recent warm temps have made mornings and evenings on the ice very enjoyable. Good luck on the last week of the season, and we'll see you this spring out on the open water!
