Chad,

It looked about at the drop off point. Maybe 500 feet or so from shore. A little tough to tell from my side.

There is 4'' of clear blue ice on black. We made the trip out Sat. night and walked out about 3/4 of a mile. there was two quads on the ice, I think they were crazy, and about 25 people. I caught 1 walleye and 1 pike:( I thought it was a little slow for first ice. but all in all it was great to get out for some fresh air and strech my legs.

Is the whole lake frozen? The south end usually takes longer. When theres about 3 inches of snow on the ice is when I usually do my best on Black during 1st ice. Can't wait for the sturgeon season!!!!!

I could'nt tell if the south end was completly froze over. there was about 1-1/2 inches of snow on the lake which is better than 3. It should be better for making ice. If a person drew one of daily sturgeon tags and do'nt have a shanty does Gill still rent them out?

Yes he does, he just don't set up all 30 shanties since the drawing. You can usually find somebody with an open shanty. Have you ever been to the drawing at the Black Lake Hotel?

No I've never been to the drawing. I do'nt get laid off for the winter so it is hard to make it out there. I've seen some 5-7fters while on sturgeon patrol this year :D
