With all the comments about Houghton Lake, I was wondering if any of you ever fish for Tip Up Town? I try to fish during the festival, but the snowmobile traffic really puts a damper on the bites. But there are guys that catch some whoppers (38" pike last season won biggest fish). The neat thing about it is if you catch a fish and bring it into the festival headquarters there is a good chance you will come home with merchandise. Last year I won some nice (really nice) poles and a solid anadized ice scoop for bringing in a couple of dinks. Apparently not that people participate in the fishing part of the festival anymore, so if you catch a dink they reward you for it. My buddy won $100 snowmobile boots, jerseys, much more than I can remember last year.

What we generally do is fish in the NW corner by the marina closet to the shanty town. The more people fishing, the less sled traffic.

And if the fishing is slow, there is always the beer tent.

This will be my first time going up this year. Me and my buddy are going up to snowmobile. Now i might have to take my rod!

Well if you have never seen the TUT beer tent you have to stop by. It closes quite early so check the schedule. They don't want to unleash a few thousand drunks on the town around dark, so I think it closes at 1PM or something like that.

I heard the beer tent was moved onshore the past couple yrs, and plenty of sherriffs around......I dont go up for T.U.T. anymore because there's too many people both in town and on the ice...and on the freeway on the ride home....any other weekend sounds good though.......

Well I agree TUT is a zoo, but if you like that sort of thing... my wife even likes the beer tent and she is not normally like that.

Yes the sheriff's run the beer tent very strictly, but I am lucky enough to know one of them there so we usually get together that night and talk about all the crazies.

I believe the beer tent opens before noon and closes at 5 pm. It is crazy in there. We had my buddies bachelor party the on the last weekend one year and it got out of hand. I didn't know girls could um smile so quickly with all the outer clothes on. If you don't like crowds don't go. ;)
