I'll be going out this weekend. Might do some night fishing for eyes friday, but I will definitely be there Saturday. I am hoping to hear from some guys that are catching steelies and eyes so I can feel a bit more encouraged about my plans.

I am going Sunday morning, can someone tell me the ins and outs, its my very first time lookin' for steelies. A PM with some info would be great. I don't even know where the dam is. I am sure I can find it on here or somewhere else, but I'm still clueless to the whole operation.

not to get you down but if it rains like they are sayin it is on sat an sun. the river will be mudded out. Not many fish near the dam, i fished from the dam to the boat launch today and never saw a thing, your best bet if your new to it will prolly be hot n tots, blu and chrome or gold an black work good for me. But again if it rains you may just be waisting gas

got on the river a little after daylight and put 2 wallys in the boat right away one about 3# and one about 5# fished the rest of the day had 5 or 6 more on but lost them. they didnt seem to be all that aggressive. then right about the last 30 mins of daylight me and the old man put 3 more in the boat 1 was 31 inches and had to be 10# or more. tried for steelies for a while but no luck there, was alot of people on the river today only seen one other fish caught and did see one steelie jump. water is still running pretty fast and prolly 10 to 16 inches visibility. tryin to get some pictures posted of todays catch. hope this info helps, good luck to all that go. fish on!!!!!

Water was very high and 1 foot below the corrugated wall. Shooting out of the left side of the dam about 5-8 foot high. Very strong current. Our two boats went for a total of 2 for 3. Using Tots... Here's the pics and some info to go along...... This was 3 pairs of fathers and sons going fishin'. My daughters boy friend (Jonathon) and his Dad (Dave), Jon's friend Robbie and his Dad (Burgett), me and my son, Joey. You may remember Robbie and his technique for netting steelhead from a previous post. Here we go...

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/purdybirdloft/DSCN2257.jpg

I hit the first one on my favorite baitcaster and handed the rod to Dave. He did an expert job of handling the fish and she was in the net in no time. 5.5 lbs. Spawned out female. Hit on a crayfish/orange belly Tot.

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/purdybirdloft/DSCN2258.jpg

The second and third hits were in the other boat. Jon had one on and Robbies dad Burgett had one on also. Burgett's got off and Jon handed the rod to Burgett... it was a good battle but Burgett had him near the boat in no time. I saw that Robbie grabbed the net!!!! I had to remind him of course about his technique.... "smack the fish on the head with the net until he gives up and jumps in the boat". After we had a few yuks at Robbie's expense, he did a great job of netting. 3.3 lbs male. Nice colors on him. Black back/gold Tot.

Here are two happy Dads, Burgett and Dave with their fish. I would say it was a great trip overall. First thing in the AM, I had my trollling motor shaft freeze to the motor mount while I was pulling it up. Had to pour hot chocolate (thanks Dave) on it to thaw it out. Then my knit cap went over board, retrieved quickly and set on the boat deck. Turned around to move something, went to grab the hat and it was froze solid to the deck. Man ,it was cold. Swapped alot of fish stories and were laughing all the time. Looking forward to doing the Father/Son trips again. Did anyone else do any good?? Info from the guys we saw on the river, no one else had any fish. Planning on going back up Monday and try again. If you see the SQ Too, come by and say hey. Will report the trip results on this thread. By the way, the river dropped about 8-12" by the time we left for home around 2:00 PM.

Take care and be safe out there.....

I think that I might head down to the dam myself after a morning of crow hunting. I really want to see the wall full of shoulder to shoulder people before I get there. Then I can just sit on the other side of the bank from them under my umbrella, tight line some spawn bags, and read a book. Always fun watching the people on the wall.

I like going downstream a bit so I can enjoy the peace and quiet except for an occassional "FISH ON!!" I've spent my time on the wall when I was younger and boatless. Everyone needs a place to fish, it' s just different. Not like the days when "Clete" ran the show, may he rest in peace.

Hey fishjunkie22..... where's those walleye pics?? Would really like to see them. By the way, was there any hot color? If the bite changed, did the color also? Can't wait for o'dark thirty on Monday morning.

Take care....

well, here are the results from today, should have had at least 2 more, but the net man today was a rookie, and would rather knock the hook out instead of netting the fish.....but its allright that kinda stuff happens...also had some 3 or 4 other fish on that we never seen.http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1243&pictureid=7292

whats everyone think about all this rain, besides that it sucks...think that the river is gonna be fishable before seasons out sunday or just blown out? Was really hoping to make it out once or twice more.

Well here's todays results...... water of course was very high, less than a foot from top of the corrugated wall. Water coming out of the one gate on top of dam. Not much concrete at the boat launch. Took my good buddies Ben and Joel today. Anchored in the fast water to get set up for steelheadin' and do some jiggin' for eyes. I landed 3 on a pink jig head with a white grub body. Then caught a small steelhead on the same set up. Go figure.... Fished the jig like we use to do at the Mamuee river in Ohio. Finally, Joel hooked a nice eye on a chart/black squiggles on side Tot. Quite a surprise. Once the sun came out, the action seemed to cease. Here are a few pics we took after the trip.........

Two of the three eyes I caught.... 21 1/2" & 22"

Joel's 23 incher......

Today's catch.... 19", 21 1/2", 22" & 23" walleyes..... did not measure the steelie.....

Hey guys, I am going to go steelhead fishing Sunday. Wife's cousin said I need a 9' rod. I've never been but I have a couple 7' set ups I use for walleye at maumee and salmon in the fall on the betsie. Am alright with this gear or do I need to go and fork over some cash I don't have. I am not looking to be a pro Sunday, just have a reasonbly good chance to catch and land fish. Thanks, Ben.

LOATS, I have been "getting by" with a 7 ft. med/lt rod with 10# xt for quite a few years now. This set up has handled steel with no problem.
