took a ride along the shore this afternoon. went to mud creek and seen two guys fishing about 150 yards from shore. also seen 4 guys from 100-300 yards out on the bay between bay port and mud creek. there was very little snow on the ice.
went to caseville and talk to one guy fishing in the harbor. he caught six small perch and said the ice was about 4 inches thick which it was. there was about 1/2 of snow on the ice. the piegon river, which runs next to the harbor at caseville was froze, but unsafe. the guy i talked to said that they were getting some 7-9 inch perch earlier. there were a total of two people fishing.
went to port austin and one shanty out there with someone in it. protable shanty and there looked to be good ice.
grindstone was froze in the harbor, but no one was on it. off the points was open, but that is open until jan or alot of cold weather.
so, ice fishing at caseville this weekend looks good, even if i do fish it from off the dock.
