Just went to the north lake to check the ice. 2" of good solid ice for the most part. Some spots have 4" do to the weght of the snow pressing on the ice bringing up water. Some spots have 2" of slush. As soon as that freezes, a good solid 4-5" will remain. Ice did not crack when I walked on it. Walked out about 20 yrds from shore.

A couple of more nites and it should be good.

Not enough for you JP. LOL

There's a current that runs the length of that lake too. Two days ago, you could actually see in the ice where the current was.
Just be careful y'all. Pfd's all around. First ice can be a tricky one.

Walleye Mike: Will be out at Stoney Creek tomarrow around 8:30 or 9:00 if your interested. Got alot of minnows and wax worms left from today at Metro with bad results. Only 3 @ 4" perch like everyone else.
Will be at the boat launch straight out from the fishing pier if your interested. Can,t do no worse out there than today at Metro and Metro will be packed tomarrow. If your interested come on out. Might try the north end of the lake if I have bad results there.
Mike P.S: Anyone else is welcome

I only live a few miles from this lake and have hit it hard both summer and winter with very, very poor results. What can you expect to catch out there? I have caught dink perch and rock bass only drifting single hooks with a crawler. Same on the ice just real small perch. I know the state record Crappie was taken there in the soft water months but I just never seem to hook anything decent. Guidance is always enjoyed.

IT Pimp 2002: I here what your saying about small perch in Stoney and there are alot but you can catch some nice ones there also. I had good success this summer with large mouth bass about 10 over the 20" mark. About a month ago after dark caught alot of walleye by the south dam and there are alot of large pike in the lake as well as large crappie.
Channel cats are also abundent in the lake but as far as ice fishing I usually like fishing for crappie @ pike close to dark near the south dam as well as in front of Eastwood Beach and just before you get out into the lake from Winter Cove area. The north lake is also a good place to try but i would stay away from the South Dam and North Dam because I think it would be unsafe right now.
I work there in the summer as a few people on the site no and we sunk about 6 fishing shelters in the large lake and we will be doing somethings this winter as well. There are a few things we can,t do because of D.N.R rules and laws like sinking timber because of the concern of blocking up the south dam which I didn,t no but that is what I was told. I seen alot of large fish taken out of the lake this year but it is a hard lake to fish.
