I already have 2 portables and have been thinking of making a large permanent shanty that can double as a rifle blind in the "off-season."
Weight is an issue. Trout recommended cedar lumber which is a great idea. But the siding was the problem. Well I was just a Lowes and they have TONS of different metal and fiberglass roofing to choose from. Bright galvenized metal roofing 48"X96" is only like $13.50, and a fairly light grade. The plastic roofing is even lighter, but almost too flimsy.
I am also thinking roofing ridge vent at the top with some sort of baffle so it will be ultra dark inside, along with vents at the bottom.
Then the idea would be to line the inside walls with insulating board and the lightest lauan you can get.
The floor pattern would be (4) 12" holes with one that can open up to 24"X36" for spearing.
I am thinking I might skate away with only putting $125 into it being I have a garage full of odds and ends, plus my buddy has a lifetime of accumulated materials too.
Anybody ever do this?
