Fished today with Captain Kroger, DE82, Kelly Johnson and the illustriuous Mr.Catficious. Wind was absolutely brutal! Picked up 5 of the elusive convicts from 7 to 10 inches. A few pigs in the group this time.:) My sidekick picked 4. Left the ice about 2 p.m. Don't know how the other guys did. HaRi and Mike were headed out a canal the last time I looked over my shoulder. I know Mike was mumbling something about 3 Kroger's on his way home.:16suspect Nice to meet you Kelly. DE we'll gettem next time.;) All my fish were taken on the Yellow tail this time out DE.

Pleasure was mine. I took 6-7 after I'd lowered my standards a bit:lol:
The wind was purty ferocious.:yikes:
Not sure how the rest of them fared. I had to roll out at 11 or so and made the mistake of stopping to visit mother nature...came back and my sled was 400 yards away and still on the run:lol:

Ice sure was makin a lot of noise there before we left. :16suspect
Kept an eyeball on that open spot infront of me. Kept getting larger then seemed to be back freezing. Really wierd stuff out there today. Thought it was kinda neat to hear the wind coming across the ice jams at a high pitch now and then.

Yep, I thought it was nice hearing that furnace kick on and heat my toes up while being lazy all day cooking up a smelt snack.

Too bad we didn't get mileage for this trip, we could have stopped at Krogers and gotten steaks.
We did finally manage to find the gills, but it was the last stop later in the day, many canals away from where we started. Did a nose dive on the ice to swap a nice crappie that came off the hook out of the hole. I'm not sure how many of what I have(only 1 crappie), but I got 2 nice perch from DE and 5 nice gills from Kroger.
Picked up a nice wind/sun burn on the face. Boy did it get cold as the sun started to sink. We were off around 5:30.
Hats off to you Joe, sittin on the lake in that wind. That was brutal on the bucket butts.
Nice to meet all of you, wish I could have put you on the fish. I was a little less than social trying to do a good job of that but it wasn't to be.
Oh well, maybe next time,
Harry
Great time guys!!! Always a pleasure fishing with each of you and nice meeting Kelly. I was able to get a good number of fish caught, just nothing of much size, I'd guess the two I gave Harry(my only keepers) were 8's, maybe 9's. All my fish came on Glow Blue Shiner with the expection of a few on minnows with the Asian Lady Bug.
Weather wasn't fun but the company was great, nice to get out of the house too. I would've stuck around longer guys but my pain meds were starting to ware off and my neck was starting to hurt pretty bad.
That's likely my last ice trip this season but as always keep me posted ;) -Bryon

Wasn't too bad HaRi. Had a rain suit on under the bibs to cut the wind.;) Figured we better kick it in when I saw the ice forming on the sidekicks beard and on the end of his pony tail.:yikes:
Tinman......heard that was like .1037 smelt per mile.:16suspect:lol::evil:
Oh I missed the other person we were with, didn't get his name on here, name is Mike and his dad joined us later in the day. So who ever you are on here it was nice to meet you :)

Switched baits a few times, but Glow Green Bug Eye caught most of mine. Strange to see the dinks 3 feet off the bottom and the nice gills were belly in the mud. Oh yeah, got a 13-14" largemouth today too. Made my day after all those dinks....too bad it wasn't a perch or crappie.

Thanks Bryon, it was quite a pleasure meeting and fishing with you guys too. Glad to hear that you had something in the bucket after that COLD outing. My dad and I ended up getting 6 ounces of perch at Pat O'Brians two days in a row. Better luck next time!

Bryon,
Yeah we did, they kinda froze almost solid on the ride home. I'll give a count when they thaw, 1/2 hour or so I figure. No monsters, but some really nice ones on top right now. After catching dink perch all day, it tends to lower your standards of "keepers". Gills were a welcome sight after the whole day trying to find more than a couple small ones.

Linescore for today including the gimmees was 18 gills(4 close to 9"), 1 crappie just under 10" and 9 perch from almost 9" down to 7 1/2". Not bad for a very slow start.
No Bryon, we got a tip from a guy walking off as we past him. I haven't fished there in 10 years or more, more or less forgot it was there,
Harry
Well glad to hear you got a meal out of it Harry, we'll give 'em hell one of these times

Morning guys, I made it as far as my lazy boy last night and pulled the trigger  Great time with some new friends, Kelly, Mike and your dad Ron, and old friends.
My hats off to "Joeker" and his buddy they did 6-7 hrs. in that wind :yikes: on the bay.
Joe I`m entering Harry in the olympics in the "off the bucket, face first belly dive for a crappie" catagory, I gave him a 9 for effort but the style just was`nt there.
Did someone say "Glow Bug Eye?"
Yep it was very cold and windy, one of those days where ya think to yourself what the heck am I doing out here? could be home in front of a fire gaining a few lbs. (wusses ) but as you walk off the ice with the wind blowing your sled out in front of you, watching the sun go down and the icebergs floating by at 40 mph, ya cant feel any part of your body except your nose and that is burning like hot needles cause of the wind burn and ya look at your buddy and he says "I`m glad the truck started, I had serious doubts cause deisels dont like cold" Ya look up in the sky and say "Thank You God" for such a beautiful day :D. Yeah, I'm thinking I'm heading out Fri. Our rolling lay offs stopped and EVERYONE got laid off, down to the corporate safety director. They were babbling something about no work and guys just sweeping floors. crazy. Anyway, wife has tests results, and I have to hit a couple early meetings for my business to try and make some money, so Fri is looking good. Or I might say screw it and hit it tomorrow, depending on how much I get done today.
