Anyone venture over to see if the ice in the harbor is safe to ice fish? Had some fun doing this for steel and Browns last winter, the locals suggest that fist and last ice was the preferred time to go.

What kind of bait do you use on those steel heads and browns thru the ice?

I was there Friday after thanskgiving, very little ice, only a trace of skim ice. I have no idea how fast it freezes there, that was only six days ago.
On the open water, steelhead on wax worms. I heard crawlers work too, we got three on waxies though.
A guy I talked to says minnows through the ice work for him.

I had a customer yesterday that said he went to Sanilac to check the ice. He said it was good.
He came to get minnows, haven't seen him since.
The ice should be good by the weekend.
Update: as I type. Phone call:
Open water on monday, froze over yesterday, no one on the ice yet.
A few browns caught in Sanilac.
