How fast does ice form on lakes at various air temperatures in inches or mm's per hour.

i cant find anything!

just wondering....if it stays like this we should be fishing some smaller lakes this weekend

I think there are way to many varibles involved to make a certain figure. Differances in water from lake to lake is one. (clear water vs. dark water ect.)

Some areas near me will be fishable. I agree too many variables. Water temp, wind speed (probably the biggest), flow (if any) , depths, precipitation............

Take a big friend and a cell phone. Send him out, if he falls in call for help. If he doesn't, go fishing.

Koby there is a member of Michigan Sportsman his name is Mr.James Wagner. Mr.Wagner wrote a thread about " Ice Fishing Safty''there is some valuable information that could help you. You'll find out that ice freezes differently accordingly to the different depths , currents, plant life and other conditions. When you venture out on the ice carry a ice spud and use it as a walking stick checking the thickness.I also recemend wearing two ice picks around yuor neck to caetch the edge of the ice if you accidently break through and go for a '' Polar Dip'' !

There are too many variables, as mentioned. Impurities in the water, pressure, current in the lakes, etc...
