View Full Version : Drop Away vs. Whisker Bisquit

I know the new drop rests are supposed to be the best, but with the whisker bisquits being on sale right now, would it be worth it to get one of these to save some money or is it just worth it to spend the extra $$$ on the drop rests....looking for repeatability in my shots....not so much worried about speed...

I used to shoot with a whisker biscuit. It wore out the fletchings, so I removed the bristles in those area. I got good groups, but not perfect enough for me. I switched to a drop away last year when I bought my new bow. I like it, it works great. My groups are better, but keep in mind I had a new bow also. The advantage of a whisker biscuit is that your arrow wont fall out. But, many drop aways have designs with an arm to hold it in place while you draw.
So, if the drop away isnt too much more I would get that. Just my preference

For hunting I would go with the wb. I have been shooting it since it was put on the market. Since I have upgraded to the newer model.
I shoot 3d leagues in the winter to stay in shape. I still shoot the wb for that as well.
I am soon going to upgrade to the new octane hostage.
One thing about the wb is you need to take the time and tune it to the bow. It took me about an hour of shooting to tune it to my bow where I was shafting my arrows at 30 yards.

Blazers hold up alot better to the wear and tear of a whisker biscuit.

I still have a WB on a back-up bow. Went to the QAD Hunter (less than $50) and will not buy the WB anymore (accept for Kid's bow). The WB is rough on vanes plus you can't shoot a FOB thru it.;)

I've shot the whisker biscuit for about 4 years now. Other than replacing fletching, I have no complaints. I do a lot of corn field stalking and I couldn't imagine doing it with any other rest. My friends who have drop aways on their bows are generally a little more accurate, but I can still shoot a 5 arrow group that I can wrap my thumb and middle finger around.

Both are good but with some problems with both, the whisker biscuit tears up the vanes, even blazers, after shooting it a while the bristles will have to be replaced, more $$$. Also the price has now gone up and the company is moveing out of the US, if it hasn't done by now. Some say there is a timing issue with the fall away rest, I would guess set up was wrong or poor quality rest. I sell a lot of QAD rest and have not had an issue, placing the cable on the right way, for some might be a challenge. Now there is a new rest in town called the tri van, instead of drop away the bristles move to the inside of the rest like a windshield wiper would do. It looks like a hostage rest and is priced up there about $90.00? I have the price lists somewhere if anyone wants to know more. The QAD rest is only $50.00 so I will have a hard time selling the others even the biscuit is now higher.

You cant beat a bisquit for dependabilty and price. But if lazer groups at longer distances are what you want go with a drop away. Models like the ripcord stay in the up postion and work just as well as the wb in hunting situations.:D

Most of my hunting is done from a tree stand or on the ground but not stalking...

I have had more rests than any man could ever wish for and continuously go back to the WB for hunting. It's foolproof.

Repeatability will more come from a drop away.

I was notorious for the phrase "Fletching contact is against my religion"
Than a buddy gave me a biscuit. Told me to shut up and shoot it for a while and give it back when I was done.
That was 2006;)
I've never replaced the bristles, never had any vane wear whatsoever (when it's setup right) and have done exactly nothing to it maintenance wise and it's looks and shoots same is it did when i first out it on.
I have other rests on other bows but hunt with a WB.

I use a QAD that locks the arrow in...I love it...but that is just my opinion. I've heard alot of good things about the WB.

I love my WB for hunting. Made the mistake of shooting one time while hunting and didn't double check to make sure my arrow was on the rest . I made the switch the next day.
I shoot blazers and do not see any wear on them at all going through the WB. Some of my friends use a drop and love them. Me, I just think it's one more thing that can go wrong. Guess that's why I shoot fixed broadheads too!;)

Shot a wb with my old hoyt x-tec (6yr old) just sold hole set up 2wks ago. Never replaced anything nor did I ever tare up any veins. I will be getting my new hoyt alpha max soon and I will guaranty there will be a WB on it. ---they are fool proof!!!!! Your bow must be in tune though. Also there are a couple different wb's .....The one you get at a BOX store may be cheaper made then from a reputable bow shop---- Look into it!!!!!! ---------- Rob

How many times do you think this guy shot this distance before filming this???My guess is a ton. 135 yards???? yosers :yikes:....who shoots 135 yards??? Im not debating a WB is a good rest, it is. Ive just had way better performance and consistancy with drop aways. Tuning a bow with a drop away is much easier than a WB in my findings. If your just going to hunt with your bow and shoot it in the summer before season then a WB is a great choice. If you shoot year round and shoot the 3-d circut Id look into a high quality drop away. JMO:)

I saw that youtube vid. before, he must have had an electronic magnet on the back of the target. I like the WB, no fletching issues, no accuracy issues. I have never shot a fall away, if i shot target i would try one. I have seen some that look really good for hunting though.

I had a LimbDriver drop away rest on my Tribute that I shot 3D, Leaques and hunted with the last 3 years.
I just got an 08 Gaurdian and thought I would give a WB a try due to its simplicty.
I shoot almost every day at home and twice a week at Full quiver and can honestly say I see no differance in my groups shooting the WB over the LimbDriver. If I saw a differance believe me I would be the first to say so. I have know particular love for any rest.
I simply like what works.:coolgleam

Maybe just me but I don't want nuthin touchin my arrow. That being said, there are lots of fall aways that offer full containment, the Ripcord (on my DXT) and QAD to name a couple.
This eventually turns into a "Ford vs Chevy" ........

Just my 2 cents. I bought my QAD Drop away rest on ebay for 36.00. I didn't win the first one but I keep at and finally got one for what I wanted to spend.

I shoot a WB and I like it. But I will admit, I have considered switching to some sort of full-containment drop-away rest.
The only reason is that I do a lot of still-hunting. And sometimes I find myself in positions such that the shots are so close I would like to just sight down the arrow itself. With the WB I can't do that.

I was looking around on ebay. There a lot cheaper there than any place else. I think I'm going to buy a QAD. Will I be able to set it up after watching that DVD. A bow tuner I am not.

I shoot a QAD Ultra on my Matthews and my 18 year old uses a WB on his BowTech. Talk about a dysfunctional family... Bottom line is they are both good rests.
