My friend is coming back from Iraq in April (for how long? I don't know), and he wants to get a Turkey permit, but he did not know he was coming back until after Feb. 1st, so he never applied for the drawing.
He is looking for DNR contact info, so he can explain his situation and possibly get a permit. Does anyone here have any contact info or ideas for him?
Thanks,
Mike
BTW, he says: "i`ve got some pics of turkeys here but they look awful, eat out of garbage dumps. YUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!!"

I don't know if they'll make any exceptions for service personnel or not, as it might screw up their lottery...I really don't know anything about it, tho, so...good luck...but he can always buy a left-over tag when they're made available in early March, there will be lots.
Best bet is to buy leftovers over the counter. The 234 hunt is out, but there should be leftovers available for the 1st and second weeks depending on where he wants to hunt.

I thought you could only get a left-over if you applied and was denied...

You can buy a 234 hunt over the counter after the lottery IF you applied and were denied for one of the other limited hunts. But if you didn't appy, you have to wait and buy one of the left-overs from the one week limited hunts. There willl be thousands of them.
I'm not sure about the rules for the ZZ two week hunt...

He can have my permit if they will let me give it to him. That is the least I could do.

Thank you very much, I guess I should have read a little more into it.
Here is what the DNR site says:
Leftover Licenses
There is no guarantee that leftover licenses will be available for any hunt unit.If any licenses remain after the drawing, unsuccessful applicants may purchase one leftover license online or from any license agent on a first-come, first-served basis for a one-week period beginning March 9 at 10 a.m. EDT. Any limited-quota hunt licenses that remain as of March 16 at 10 a.m. EDT may be purchased by any hunter, including those who did not apply for a spring turkey license. These licenses will be sold until the quota is met. Current and past year's leftover license availability is posted on the DNR Web site.
Apparently I will find out on March 2nd which licenses will be available, but I have to wait until March 16th to have his wife get one for him (hopefully she will be able to). I don't see last years left over licenses (just to see if any was left over).
Thanks again,
Mike

Just for one small area, there was something like 1200 left over up north here. Popular area, too. Those would all be for the one week limited hunts in the different areas.
Again, I'm not sure about the ZZ, someone who takes that tag would be much better informed than I, I'm sure, and that's a two week hunt.

I would like to add, that while in Texas before he left he was able to get his first Rio Grande longbeard last year! I'll see if I can get that pic in my gallery....
I just put one in of him in Iraq driving a humvee.
