Haven't really done any scouting yet, just waiting for the fields to dry out so the birds will be more visible. I have a couple new areas I would like to find out about.
Lil Tanker has his hotspot from last year wide open agains this year. He stopped there a week or so ago and saw 6 mature birds in a field. The other tankers have the sanctuary there west of town, and I'm pretty sure spitndrum has a hotspot....That leaves the two of us to bring up the slack, I hope we don't eff this up.
Let me know when you talk to Ed, I'd like to check out his place. The logo thing is a pain in my ass, why don't you do that.

You will no longer need to scout for your birds. With his latest version, he teaches you how to roost your birds in the exact location you want them to, including how to keep them from going onto your neighbors property. This sounds like something that might be of interest here, since I started using Clive's program several years ago, I have not had to scout since!

the new guy is a freakin genius. I just checked out QDM's pictures....Nice bucks, but UhOh is right, that is a HUGE head. Must've been bee stings or allergies or something...Maybe an o.d. on viagra. They should make one of these things :) really big for QDMAMAN.

Sanilac County is the longbeard mecca, I've got some different areas where I've chased birds in the past. What about you?

I'll be chasing them the first day or two down here in eaton/ingham/livingston county depending on what spot I decide to go to..After schools over I'll be at northern lapeer and sanilac edge..Just west of Brown town off M-90..Grandparents own a race horse farm there and got some good turkeys..Never taking one there yet but seen plenty of Toms..If not there I'll be in Tuscola/huron/sanilac edges again as I have land all near there..So who knows.:dizzy:.I love to travel and hunt run and gun..Though I took a great bird last year with the bow and looking to do it again..HunterHawk was my guide as hes four for four years now with bow on toms including eaton countys number 1 in 2007 for typical bird:)

Hey Team, dang I didnt even know you were getting this started this year.
I think all of us Tank's have the early hunt and I dont think you should have to worry about us filling our tags (not trying to be cocky but shouldnt be to hard). There has been about 40-60 birds all the time on our place and I have seen some big birds at my brother in laws so we should be able to get some nice ones.
As far as being from the thumb and not having big birds, and needing to get one from the west side, not sure thats real accurate. Ive been seeing some huge birds already this year. Gonna try with a Bow for the first couple days Im sure Troy and Ricky will be doing the same. Let the trash talk ensue.

Just watched 4 Toms last night with about 6 Jakes and a couple hens in the field at our place. They were fighting and running all over hell 2 of the birds have dandy beards Id say 10"+ one is like 3"-4" thick, hopefully we get a crack at those two, gotta be 3 year olds. Probably the two I chased all last year and never got close enough too. I think with this many birds even that Tony Reinke guy could kill one, and man from what Ive heard he is a terrible turkey hunter. Really good shot with his bow though. (Specializes in tricky rear-end shots).

I think Stinky's problem was he went into rut a little early last fall :dizzy: He and I are headed out in the AM hoping to double up and be done. Good luck to you and your son it must be quite a thrill for you. My son just turned two and he asked me tonight if he could go with me! As for the tankers, I haven't talked to any of them lately but I think they all have the late hunt. Don't worry too much about those boys, they have some great properties to hunt and they are killin' machines. It is Stinky and me that I am worried about. I'll post around 11AM Sat and let you know how we did.

Bluegill and I finally have the birds patterened and will be after them again this weekend. I think we can get the job done and rack up some quick points for the team, even though it may only be a couple. Sorry this has taken all week to post. My hunt ended last Sunday without a bird in the bag. I was not able to make it out during the week to hunt but did log some scout time from the car. I hunted almost all day Saturday and in the morning on Sunday. While afield I saw 44 birds of which 14 were at less than 20 yards. Only one tom and he was henned up. I had a lot of fun just no big bang. Sorry to let you down fellas, maybe next year if ya have me back!

I'm glad it's over. The saga of '09 turk season has come to a close. 6:15 Sunday morning found me standing over a 2 year old with 9.75 inch beard. I would like to thank everyone who encouraged me this year, wait that was no one.

Can't wait for next year, I hope there is even more trash talk coming this way. I would have to say that it has kept me motivated during the tough times I had this year, rolled a 10 incher last week, missed one midday on saturday, and had way too many henned up gobblers that were impossible to hunt.

Sniffin Tailfeathers has been all business this year and I think it's going to pay off. Bluegill Bardy, I'm sorry that you suck at turkey hunting, the tankers all came through with birds. Spitndrum is going to bag a trophy this year and at the end I think we'll be in the chase.

Got mine also yesterday Tony.

Went to a different farm than I have been hunting. Didn't get out until about 9 and saw 1 hen 2 toms and four jakes in a wheat field. Thought that I could pull the jakes and subordinate tom to me if I could get on the back side of the mile and come through the woods to the field edge. Made it to the edge about 9:40 and made a couple clucks. Heard 2 gobbles and saw 5 red head pop over the ridge in the field about 300 yards out. They went into a low spot and then gobbled again closer a couple more call exchanges and the tom and 4 jakes were standing at 55 yards strutting. New they were hung up and with no dekes decided to give it a shot. Stoned him in his tracks he difd'nt even move. Was not the big bird I was hoping to get with the bow but I will definately take the hunt and the bird on the last day of my season. Bird was 23 lbs. , 9 inch beard and 7/8" spurs. A nice big 2 year old, pics to follow.


Tankhunter and Juniortank both shot nice toms last weekend.

P.S. Barty is buying the beer all summer.

Well, I figured I'd say as much as the birds were saying, which today was nothing!

I have had a few good mornings in the woods but have not been able to connect. Honestly, I'm not used to the amount of ground cover (ferns) that seems to be in the way.

The other morning I had a bird on the opposite side of a wet area that he would not cross, so I worked him down to the end, where I could get on the same side as him. I figured we walked about a 1/2 mile calling back and forth, then as I was able to get in front of him, all I could see where the ferns moving. It felt like I was in the "Jurassic Park" movie.

Hopefully I'll be able to get out over the weekend.

That was one thing I didn't like about hunting the late season..the new ground cover and the mosquitoes. I've also noticed around here that the birds aren't in the fields as much, which makes it tough. Stick with it Spitndrum, you'll get him. Take your boys with you, maybe they're your good luck charm!!
