I have the opportunity to pick up, for free, a Class 2 or 3 (not sure which) hitch receiver from a 1998 Dodge Durango. I was wondering if any of you know if this receiver fits the frame rails for a 1999-2000 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

If it doesn't fit, is it safe if I cobble/weld material onto the receiver in order to adapt it to the F-250 frame rails?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

kroppe,
i would purchase the correct hitch for the vehicle if the one you get does not fit. ask yourself if its really worth it. you might end up getting screwed by an insurance co. if the hitch your using isnt made for the vehicle or worse yet hurt someone else.

I agree with dieseldude Kroppe.

GET THE CORRECT HITCH !!!! Hitches arent that expensive and it just isn't worth it. You're probably going to spend a few bucks trying to rig that thing to work and you won't be sure if it's safe.
If it were me, I'd bite the bullet and get the correct one.

I think the last one I bought was around $100. You can get them at U-Haul and a few other places. Reese and another name brand (that I can't remember) are made by the same company. Buy the hitch and install it yourself as they usually bolt right up.

Kroppe,, my wife drives a Durango and I have a F-350....The hitch on the Durango is a class 3,,,but I would faint if they are interchangable. Totally different frame system.
