Well, I've found the fish... finally! I was running hard on a one month 'fishless' streak when finally I got on the crappie pretty good.
Just south of Jackson, MI, in Addison, MI there is a chain of lakes called the Mill Pond. This chain consists of about three or four small ponds, fifteen acres at the most, and is a chain of lakes formed by the Bean Creek, fed by nearby Devil's Lake.
The past week I've been out everyday and have caught the crappie everyday. I took my buddy along one day and he brought his Vex, and he was on them hot-n-heavy. Within the first 15 seconds, literally, he had about three fish on the ice, biggest being just shy of 13". Although we only ended up with seven fish that day, we marked fish in every hole on the Vex and had to hole-hop to find them after the initial hole. Although it took some moving, we found active fish at each hole.
Overall the week has been very productive and last night we cooked up 35 or so crappie fillets... :D
Most of the fish have came on homemade spider jigs and the Wolverine Jigs sold at Knutson's Sporting Goods in Brooklyn, MI. Most successful baits have been tipped with minnows dorsal fin hooked, or spike, hooked through the nose.

Redear,
Yes, the ponds are public, but you must enter either via the road, or the bowling alley at the heart of Addison.
One entrance is on Comstock St. If headed South on U.S. 127, turn left anf head East on Junction St., just before you enter Addison. Go down this about 1/8 mi. and turn right on Comstock St.
The other entrance is just to head straight into Addison (if headed South), and turn left into the bowling alley just before the dowtown light. You pull into the parking lot and walk down a small hill to the pond.
I talked to a local I fish with today who limited out on 'gills, specks, and some perch. I might go give her a try again this afternoon.

Well, I made it out... again. Got out from about 3:45 PM to 6:00 PM, caught five nice 'gills. Tried some waxies in lieu of minnows and did quite well on some 6-7" 'gills.
The local who limited this morning was out again, doin' the same as me, with the same results. He lost a few nice specks at the hole as did I.
Overall another good day...

Well, I guess you didn't try Monday, because I was out there and it was just me and my buddies! :D
No, I don't pakr in the bowling alley lot. That is Pond 1, I fish Pond 2, the one just to the Northeast of that pond. If you are headed South on U.S. 127, turn left on Junction Rd., just North of Addison, then turn right on Comstock St., about an 1/8 mile down Junction Rd. Most people park just off the road on the curve.
Iced about 15 more tonight, biggest 'gill around 6". Thursday and Friday we have no school and plan on making an all-dayer. You fellas should join us!

Mettle,
I believe the "possession" limit is something like 50, or 75 fish, is it not? If he brings home 25 in the afternoon, then 25 at night, he is legal. He only has 50 in possession; bringing home 25 at a time.
West,
The specks will bite generally all the way up to dark or a little past. I'm going to be out there tomorrow night, probably from 3:45-ish to right near 6:30. I drive a sky blue 1992 Ranger, and my buddy drives a black Dodge Dakota, or an older blue Chevrolet 1500. I'll have minnows and waxies, so if you forget bait, I'll lend ya a few. :)
Good luck you guys, and remember, the ice is getting thinner, so stay safe.

Looks like some on should be in school reading the rule book. Did you ever hear of the daily limit. That is 25 PER DAY not 25 in the morning and another 25 in the after noon.

I guess you're right. I just thought 50 in possession, 25 per trip, not day, my bad.
