Walk out the door and start walking north ;). Right now, its anybody's guess where the fish will be at. Guys are fishing all over and I haven't heard of any "real" sucess.
I'm not certain how much ice is still left but there were guys all over the north end this afternoon. Looked like a pickup out by Hardwood. There had been a lot of very hard ice but, I don't have a clue how much we lost. Going down to 8 tonight so is should start to lock back up.

Just received a note from a guy that fished it last night. 18" of ice around the Churchill Pt. area, but he came back empty handed.

fishing has been pretty tought latley ( got the skunk two outtings in a row now) but I was out this morning in 55" just south of chalet pt and ice was at 12" so it varies quite a bit throughout the lake right now ... be careful out there and good luck to everyone

I told you how to catch them but you must have forgot..... Don't forget to "p" on your fingers, let chew drip on your coat, walk counter clockwise around your hole three (3) times while humming Mary had a little lamb before you put your bait in the water and use 1/4oz airplane jigs and dead minnows and keep it at least 8'-10' off the bottom. Works every time.

Where'd ya think I learned that? Bet you're still catching fish too minute man!!!:D
I've been trying to help Steel out but, young guys now just seem to want to do it their own way. My bet is that he's forgetting the counter clockwise walk around the hole and not humming Mary had a little lamb. Well, on the other hand, he might be doing it after he sets up the hole which in that case, he breaks the spell completely......
If he continues to break the spell, he's going to have to get aquainted with Fishfoote. If he's deamed worthy by Fishfoote, Fishfoote will read the stars for him, which in turn, will help get him back to the basics and catching fish again. But, I have to warn him, if Fishfoote does a reading and he doesn't follow it, he's in for at least a year of very poor fishing!
All hail Fishfoote, last year's Revenge of Nessy II Champion and astounding reader of the elements....

I fished all afternoon yesterday, in one of my "hot spots" and never marked a fish. Of course it was windy and I was hunkered down behind the quad.
Heard from a friend this morning, that a guy he knows and fishes quite often is having about the same luck. Fishing is spotty. Some days they're on. Typical fishing.....
ANY DAY UP HERE is better than the best day down there.....

You hit the nail right on the head Encore. No matter what happens up this way, beats being down in the concrete jungle. We are truly blessed!!

Must be a grandpa thing. My dad's father always used to tell me "your not holding your mouth right" when we didn't do good hunting or fishing.

See! You and minute man both understand what I'm talking about! And, if both of you remember correctly, grandpa always caught lots of fish, didn't he?!!!!
Bet there were some that read this, that thought it wasn't true.....

DNR rescues missing man on Hubbard Lake
February 20, 2009 - 05:06 p.m. EST
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is using a recent rescue on Hubbard Lake as an example of how important it is to have a plan when venturing out during winter.
Early Thursday morning a concerned mother called the DNR’s “Report All Poaching (RAP) Line” to report her son had not returned home from ice fishing on Hubbard Lake. The man had planned on being home by 7:30 p.m., she said.
Conservation Officers Brian Engelhard and Warren MacNeill both responded. Weather conditions on the lake were severe - temperatures below 10 degrees with blowing snow and visibilities of less than 40 feet. The officers proceeded to perform a grid search on the lake.
At 4:45 a.m., the missing man was found in his pickup truck, cold but alive. The truck had become stuck and the man made the decision to stay inside the vehicle. Eventually the vehicle ran out of gas, but he remained in the truck, using a small portable propane heater from his shanty until that ran out of fuel. The man then piled articles on top of himself to conserve body heat.
As the officers were searching the lake, the man’s family retrieved global positioning system (GPS) coordinates of the location where the man was previously fishing with a friend.
“This information was invaluable in this situation”, said Lt. Creig Grey, DNR law enforcement supervisor in Roscommon. “This situation easily could have ended in a tragedy, but this man and his family knew the importance of being safe when going out on the ice,” Grey said. “His family knew when to expect him home; they knew approximately where he was going to fish; he made the decision to stay in his vehicle to try to stay warm; and the family knew that with recent warmer weather and the current weather conditions they needed to contact authorities for help. These are all important reminders for anyone venturing out on the ice this winter.”
The name of the rescued man has not been released.
the RAP line? I would have hoped she would have called 911 instead...

Glad he's ok too! Although you can have trouble with a cell phone signal on the lake, this is a good reason to carry one of them also. I'm glad that his buddies had GPS coordinates.
Both Warren and Brian know the lake pretty good and are trained for these types of emergencies/conditions. I'd like to point out, that the weather didn't stop them from doing their jobs.
Great job guys! Thanks to both of them!

Me too:sad: Our daughter is home for a week from UofM and we were going to go out to Fletchers for the day. The whole fam damily, seven adults and venison stew to heat up for dinner. Now it's plow shovel plow and then eat some stew and call all of them to say I'm eating their share. Sunday afternoon naps are cool too!

One of the participents in the Ice Challenge pulled in a real JUMBO, really nice fish, but I'm sure that it was caught way north and still in deep water. Most everyone that's fishing walleye, are still in 50'+ and marking perch. I've heard of the guys on the north end starting to catch a few. I'm still targeting walleye.........;)
