Went to check ice yesterday and seen a few guys out so I decided to go check and see how they were doing. Boy I couldn't believe what I saw:yikes:

All 5 guys I watched fishing were catching fish however the size they were keeping was just absolutely unbelievable.

These guys all together had probably 40 fish on the ice with the majority of them being 3-4 inches and I wish I was exagerating.

I hope they are reading this and feeling stupid. How do they ever expect the perch to come back when they fish like that. Truly no sportmanship when people act like that in my mind.

By the way the ice was 8-10 inches and looked very solid. By shore it was easy to get on/off with minimal open water.

It may be true that these small fish will never get to be 10-12" fish and i feel the same way about 7 & 8" perch. To me, they are just a pain to clean. However, it it also true that a small perch is replaced quicker than a jumbo. Personally, i would rather have a dozen 11 & 12 inchers than 50 7 & 8 inchers. It all depends on how hungry you are. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Problem is if you release the smaller guys they may not survive anyhow. If I were getting that many little guys I would change my setup to eliminate those from hitting (larger minnows, bigger hooks). That or just move.

Fortunately I have not gotten into that many dinks this year on Muskegon Lake.

I know this may not apply but I went fishing on Barteese Lake down toward Jackson a few years ago and there was hundreds of small to medium sized Bluegills laying out on the ice. It was not a die off. Some of the fish were keepers! :tdo12:

If you are going to catch and kill fish without intentions to use them, at least take them home and put them on your garden! :16suspect

Who cares how small the fish are that people keep? As long as they are put to use why would you even make such a remark. I keep tons of 3-5" gills, perch, crappie, rock bass, etc. as I have a 3' Indonesian Tiger Shovelnose catfish that eats the crap out of them. It would cost me around $100 per month if I gave him goldfish, so I catch him his food. Give it a rest man you have no clue what those fish are being used for.

THILL

Or do I mean dill? Real sportsman you are. People with your mentality shouldn't be allowed to purchase a license. Do you hunt also? So if it's a fawn you shoot it because one of your pets will eat it? COME ON.:help:

You know if people on here spent less time worrying about what others do, and more time worrying about what they themselves do, it would be a much nicer place to hang out. So many times we hear people claim ownership to animals and fish...thill do you own ANY of the fish stocked in a farmers private pond? do you know exacly WHERE he catches fish for his prized exoctic catfish (That we really don't need wild in the state waters) How do you know he isn't getting them from a lake full of stunted bluegills? there seems to be quite a few lakes full of those in michigan. Truth be known, it will probably only be a short time before his prized catfish gets VHS and dies anyway, so let him do what he wants.
