Fished Union last night from 7:30 to about 10:30. Ended up with 1 rock bass to show for the effort. Headed out from the boat launch and walked all the way to the south east point of the first bay-shore ice is pretty soft, but still holding up quite well at the launch. Spuded out a ways from the launch and drilled a hole to confirm the ice thickness. The ice is still a solid 8-10" and we drilled about 15 holes through the night with the same results. It was a spooky trip cause all I could hear was water washing/rushing around the top of the ice. Everything seemed safe ice wise, but we did run into a couple of spots where pressure cracks have formed around previous used holes and what looked to be old spearing areas -we avoided walking near those. Someone had an atv out near the under water islands and got on and off near the boat launch-so things must still be pretty solid. We also ran into another person fishing in front of the launch when we were on our way back in who had just set up. Hope this warm front is on its way out of here soon. Be safe out there.

Too bad it wasn't more productive but good to hear the ice is holding up so far.

I can ear the jet engine like winds outside now:yikes: Hopefully it'll blow all that water off the ice for us:D

Was out there thursday the 5th, buddy and I were looking for Wolverine Lake. When we couldn't find it we talked to the local bait shop down the road, he directed us to Union L. . First time seeing the lake let alone fishing it, saw some shanties over near the 100' water. Fished the NE side of the sunken island there in about 20' of water. We ended up catching two perch, then a pike came through scared the perch, bumped the lure and ran. We were getting ready to leave had another pike grab the line about 20"er. The wind was brutal that day. I would definately fish it again. Ice was about 12-14" that day.:fish:

Yeah that's what I noticed as a new guy to the lake. There is not very many access points to get on the lake. That launch is a pain to deal with because you have to park across that busy road. How is the walleye fishing in the summer time? What to use/technique?

I would not even waste my time on wolverine. That fishery died. It use to be amazing for crappie but now the only crappy you can catch are the same as in the toilet. It can be a decent pike lake in the spring but thats about it.

I know the pike fishing is really good on union from what i heard.
