Is there a video that shows the best way to butcher a deer? I thought I might try to do it my self to save money and get the most out of the hunt. Or is there someone that lives in the Grand Rapids area that I could bring a deer to that butchers themselves and we could split the meat for showing me how.

Howdy-
There is a great video series done by Jerry Chipetta and Chef Milos Cheilkos (sp) - a series of 4 that address everything you need to know. I THINK they are called "Field to Table" or something similar.
Contact Neal (or he may see this himself) for details; you can also see him take a whitetail on the video !
Neal also hosted a "Meat-N-Greet" a few weeks ago that was most informative; picked up quite a few tricks.
It's not too difficult; just make sure your knives are sharp.
You can also do a search on the Internet for Game Preperation.

There's a video out there called "Venison processing the E-Z Way" by Joe or John Raglon. It has former Minnesota Vikings coach Bud Grant on the cover. The guy is butcher in Minnesota. It works GREAT!! I've been doing my own deer now for about 10 years, and this method is awesome. The deer hangs upside down on gambrels, and the only thing that is removed from the whole thing is the front shoulders and legs. The rest stays hanging and all the meat is removed boneless! Great for packageing, no bones to cut or stick through wrap and ruin meat. Very easy to follow. The first time doing it, I'd go in and out of house pausing VCR at each step. Once you do it, you'll remember next time.

I was looking through the forum and when I saw my name I couldn't remember posting the ? but after reading it and looking at the date I do.
I still haven't gotten the videos yet but I haven't been Deer hunting that much in the last few years to even get one. But thanks to all for the responses.
