Decided to get out after work this afternoon and try to get a few before the rain hits. Fished this pond all weekend but couldn't get the big ones to bite, only small ones and they were barely taking it, although the bass were really hitting well. Caught several bass in the 3lb range. All the fish seemed to be in the top five feet of water, I could see the schools of big gills swim by, stop and look at the jig, then continue on.
Well tonight the big gills started to hit just before dark. Got these boys only three feet below the ice. #12 jig topped with a mousie. Can't wait till I can get back out there.

Yeah, I just love it when the gills come in to only stare at my presentation no matter what I do  :dizzy:
Nice job on the night bite.

Nice job! Got out on a friend's pond last week: similar experience of catching big gills about 5' down in over 15fow.

If you havent already tried. I find in these situations with fineky big gills, throw a wiggler down and they cant resist. Wigglers seem to get them every time.

We caught some nice 'Gills last weekend one 8 and 3/4 and another 9 and 1/2 among others but they were in 22 feet of water right off the bottom.
