I just got off the ice at newburgh lake. As I was putting my stuff in the car two mounted police approched and asked for my permit. I showed them my licence and they laughed and said no a permit from the parks dept. Now remember i was out there since 9 am. and this was like 2:30 pm. he said i cant fish without a permit? he then asked if i was done for the season and i said that depends on the weather. he said that there are signs that say you are ice fishing at your own risk (isnt that always).
i think he was tryig to impress the young female officer that was on the other horse.
oh yes i caught a mess of bluegill and a few crappie one perch. had my hands full trying to use 2 rods LOL and there was 13 inches of ice

Hi dana
The only permit I've ever heard of needing there is to use the
boatlaunch.
Most of the mounted sheriffs there are volunteers and are mainly
used for dog and pony shows.
I believe those 2 don't have a clue.
You can call the wayne county parks and rec dept.
and check with them so you will know for sure
in the future.
Sounds like you had a fun day! congrats!

I am not sure about wayne county, but if I am an Oakland County Park Fishing I am required to have a parking permit to be in the park. Again, just not sure about your lake. I don't worry about it much in the winter, but I know they do patrol the lots, sometimes.

You dont need a permit to fish in hines park/ newburgh lake. All you need is to be there with a license between park hours ...what ever those are. Sounds like officer stallion was wooing officer ms. mare and making fun at your expense, maybe later trying to go roll in the hay with her.

unless they changed something in the last year you dont need a permit. I haven't fished it this year but spent A LOT of time on it last year and no one gave me any trouble.
Was there any size to the gills? Normaly they are all 5 inchers.

I have fished there in the summer during my lunch hour and I do not believe there is any permit parking. That is if you are fishing in the park accross from the Yacht Club.

HI Dan-
You would just need to follow the DNR guidelines for fishing licenses
to fish in Newburgh Lake. If you are taking a boat on the lake, you do
need to obtain a permit from Wayne County Parks. It costs $5 for the
year and you can get it at 33175 Ann Arbor Trail (Nankin Mills Building)
in Westland.
Thanks! If you have any other questions, you can call the parks office
at (734) 261-1990.
