My dad has a Strikemaster Laser power auger that the blade keeps falling off of. It happened last year and again just today. Not sure if its the same side or not. The new blades were just put on it about a month ago. Has anyone else had this problem? I think he should write them and see if maybe it was a common problem or what. The threads aren't stripped and the screws fit tightly.

That sounds strange. I would try some lok-tite on the screws and call Strikemaster.

My buddies did the same thing but didn't know until he was done cutting the hole so he lost the blade. Then when he went and bought new blades, one of them broke in half while cutting a hole. He was able to return them and get a new set for free. I put lock tite on mine and have never had a problem with it getting loose at all.

We were going to use loctite but didn't have any and didn't have time to get it. If it is necessary it should say it in the instructions. We also lost the blade each time it came off. At I think about $58 a set its getting expensive. Atleast we had the other one from the last time.

We have had the samething happen with the hand augers, I would try the loctite, unless you want to keep checking them all the time

Just a heads up...
I'm not sure if you know or not there are varing types of lok-tite. Make sure to use the one you can heat up to remove the screws to replace a blade in the future.

That said, I agree with lok-tite for the screws.:D

There are several types of loctite, but the ones you want to look at are the red and the blue. If you use the blue, you can remove the screw later with just hand tools. If you use the red, you have to use hand tools and heat to remove the screws. I cannot recall exactly how much heat has to be applied, since I usually use the red when I don't intend to ever remove the screws. If I were you, I'd read the package to see how much heat's needed. I am pretty sure, almost positive, that auger blades are tempered. Thus, applying a lot of heat to them will ruin the temper and the blade. So, if you ever need to remove the blades to sharpen them, you don't want to have to heat them with a torch to get the screws out.

where do you fish? if you come up my way before the next time you go out ( st. helen, houghton Lk. ) i will hook up with you and do it for you. i have the loc tite stick in blue which dont require heat, but dose require a primer. it will work with out, but not to the full effect. hell, if you have the time to wait, i can send it to you if you send it back. or better yet, i might even have some samples, if i can find them...lol... pm me your address and i'll send it your way. This is the only way to go, i put it on everything from hand auger blades, to scope mounts and NEVER have had a problem with anything i have put this on! Mike
