Has anyone had any expierence with one of the XOG units from Lowrance? I need to get something with a larger screen than my eTrex.
I read a some of the reviews in Cabelas and some say the screen is extremely hard to see in bright sunlight. Which.... would be a bummer, as I would use it more on the quad for ice fishing.
Any thoughts?

No. I'm not sticking with Garmin. I want to be able to use my Lake Master Pro card. Its either the XOG unit or the H20.
Recommendations???

Go with the XOG over the H2O. I have the H2O and the screen is pretty small. Nice unit but I like the XOG better... more versatile.

Have you actually seen it operate? How was it in bright sunlight? I really could care less about the driving directions, as I've got OnStar for that;)
I made a cut out of the XOG and yes, its much larger than the H2O. But, the H20 is larger than my Garmin 2.25". It (XOG) appeared to have fairly good reviews on the Cabela's web site and the two complaints were 2.5 hrs. battery life and couldn't see in bright sun light. Both of those are bummers and unexceptable. Either way, when I buy I'll buy Lowrance so I can use the Lake Master card.

Well, my H2Oc isn't all that great in the sunlight either... but I think a lot of that is due to the small screen.

I just picked up the xog unit mostly as a main gps unit on my quad for icefishing. I have a legend for backup. As for the battery life, just plug the unit into the 12v outlet on the quad if you have one. I picked up a handlebar ram mount that works real well. The screen is bright and easy to read during daylight hours. I bought mine at Franks for $150. I heard the touch screen doesn't respond well if the unit gets real cold but I have yet to have a problem and I had it out in some cold weather, but I put the unit in my inside coat pocket while fishing.

After I checked them out, I decided against one. However, I think that they'd work better out of a vehicle. I needed one that would save waypoints that I could name. I use a hand held, just like you do with a RAM mount on the quad for ice fishing.
What I like to do is to save my waypoints and name them as the date. That way, when I head out the next year, I can follow myself right around the lake and know where I was fishing and when.
I ended up with the H2Oc. I've had it out and with it plugged in to 12v, I keep the backlight on so its easy to see.
Now I just need to catch fish!
Thanks.....
