The season started good with keeper fish finding the bucket. Then there were two straight trips with between 75-100 caught each time, but only 4 kept (and the 4 were on one trip). Then three consecutive moring trips that produced almost nothing.
The hard part is I'm not finding fish. I get out there and move every 10-15 minute if I'm not on something. Now with the water being so clear and being able to see what is below, I am seeing no fish below me. I can't even find them. Yesterday at SANG, I started almost 1.5 miles out; I was way out past anyone else. After nothing, I started to zigzag working my way in. Never found them!
Oh well, frustration is kicking in a little. I'll keep taking it out there and hope that my luck turns soon. I used to think I was a pertty good hard water fisherman, but 5 straight sub par trips has me talking to myself.:dizzy:
Oh yeh: SANG on Saturday - fished all over - ice was great - water was clear - fishing was tough (for me).

You're not the only one, it seems that a lot of people have struggled so far this hardwater season

You are fishing too deep and around too many people.

You are fishing too deep and around too many people.
At SANG, when I was out far, the water was still under 8' deep. I worked my way in with each stop zig zaging from left to right. I never got into the crowd except on my second to last stop; figured I give the city a go. My last stop I was in 3 fow.
I'm going to try again on Wednesday after work (I hope). Maybe I can get out a little early and hit somewhere around 3ish.

Buy a spear. Its like bowhunting. I can't wait to get back out. At least then if you can see them and they don't bite, you still have a chance.

Change how you fish for them perch. If your not getting the results you want, change how you fish for them... go to places where you dont expect to find them (or at least where the other guys dont expect to find them) I've had guys laugh at me for the places I fish, dont laugh when they see the results. If you fish in the pack of guys, you are damned to everybody elses fate also. Fish away from the big packs of guys, and catch the fish they are scaring off. Icefishermen are like herd animals, be a hunter, not a gatherer/grazer.:16suspect

Go to Metro
Fish in 4 to 7 feet of water.
No guarantee that you'll catch a bunch of giants, but I know you'll at least see fish.

It is going to get good real fast. These temps will have the fish moving in very soon. I am seeing signs of schools staging up getting ready to spawn already in some areas... Most likely you will have to buy a new freezer after next week!

I agree with Mr. Archer above...
I think with this warm up and some stable temps coming after it, your going to start seeing more fish....they seems scattered to this point, but we were out yesterday...fished a little bit deeper than most and saw tons of fish, hogs and dinks, you always have to sort them....Dinks were more aggresive than the hogs, but we did really well...
Hogs came off minnows heads and wigglers basically laying on the bottom with no action, they were still no aggressive....
