I do not own either of these but I am thinking about buying one. Maybe try to catch a sale or two.

I am looking at either a Vexilar Fl-18 or Fl-20 Ultra or an underwater camera like the Aqua-View. I am looking to spend $300.00-$400.00.

The vex would not be used during the summer.

I have heard good things about both, but I am undecided as to what route to go. Thanks for the help.

I have a lowrance and an aqua-vu. I'm not starting the flasher vs. graph debate. To each his own on that one. However, I would start with one of them before a camera. The camera is great don't get me wrong and it does help you fish, but there are conditions where the camera doesn't help (aka muddy/milky water or cloudy skies and snow cover). It happens. The flasher/graph doesn't care so much about water clarity or overhead conditions.

Great point. I never thought about the water clarity issue.

Thanks.

I'm new to the Vex this year and never realized how blind I was while ice fishing. Won't go without it now.

Sonar first, camera second. Cameras have a lot more limitations.

Buy a sonar that doesn't have moving parts like a vex or marcum etc. They wear out and occasionally need to be serviced by the factory. Lowrance sonar units don't have any moving parts and they have many more features and options...and they cost less.

We usually fish clear water, like Lake Erie or St. Clair Saginaw Bay. We have an Aqua Vu and love it. Especially when ice fishing it is benificial to see your lure. When fishing cotton rd, I caught 8 sunfish in about 10 minutes. I doubt I would have caught them without the use of the camera. I watched them come in and take the bait. It was AWESOME:)

The camera is kind of a toy. It is a great tool though. For dirty or deeper water I would get a vexilar or other kind of graph
