I would use 8 lb with a leader for the pike. Get braided line so you can get 8 lb with like 4 lb diameter line.

have you ever had a problem with the braid shreding? I have herd of this problem. What about Mono or Florocarbon?

I used it all last summer on pike/walleyes and never had it fray up but I use steel leaders on pike. I suppose a walleye could tear it up too though. I cant remember what brand I bought but I liked it.
You can't go wrong with 8lb mono though. You could even run 6 if your reel has low line capacity, as long as your drag is smooth ;)

On all my eye rods/reels I run 8 lb Fireline crystal micro ice to a 3 foot leader of 6 lb mono...........haven't had a break off on eyes in several years.......
I don't usually fish pike so can't speak about them.....

thats what im mostly worried about is a break off, For my reel it rocomend's at 6lb only 65 yards :( so I might go with 6lb with the leaders and loose drag.
Thanks guys

I've caught MANY 20+ lb Chinooks on an ultralight trout rod with a micro reel spooled with 4 lb mono, no leaders.... Never had a break off...
You'll be alright.

I use 3' of Maxima 8 lb for a leader, floro seems to be to brittle in the cold. Works great on tipup to;)

Use 4 pound fireline in the smoke color. It is limp enough for small eye baits and it will handle monster pike. The only way your line is going to break is if the pike swallows your bait. Any higher pound test is really unnecessary in my opinion. Tie direct to your bait as well, just make sure your knot doesn't pull out and you won't have any problems. Walleye won't cut you off, they don't have razors for teeth like pike do.

I run 6lb floro on my walleye rods. The waters I fish usually have a little stain to them. Also, my jigging raps dont have a chance when a big hungry pike swims by.
