I'm heading out the door and it's 44 deg out. The water is running off the roof like crazy. It's gunna be a warm wet one on the lake today. I hope the ice holds up with all the warm weather.

ya, i had 46 at 5:45 this morning.
i'm sittin' here waiting for my bro-in-law & worrying about what to wear.
if it's 2 outside with wind, no problem, but 46 & wind it's a guessing game for me. we'll have a 1/2 mile walk today ,so i don't want to dress too warm, but then i don't want to be cold out there either.
have to dress a bit to the warm side

Short sleeve shirt and creepers :yikes::lol::lol:

Seriously though that is a good question on what to wear... We'll' be out today but I see it's quite breezy already. It'll be a bit chilly w/ that wind, hope the rain stays away.

i use a sportsman's bucket with the swivel seat on it...any how, i manage to stuff my bibs, coat, extra gloves and hat in there and have it "on hand" if needed. i wear sweats and layer my upper body so not to be too warm on the trip to the lake and add a sweat shirt and second pair of sweats if needed. once we are set up and in the shanty, the heater comes on and a layer will come off as needed. the whole trick is to not get sweaty on the walk out. that is the worst and will ALWAYS cut a day short.

the best tip i have to offer is this......i DO NOT wear my boots until i get ready to step out of the truck...i wear a pair of tennis shoes i slip on and they do not let my feet sweat in the vehicle. if my feet get cold....i'm done and it ruins it for all that rode with me.

if it isn't raining or really windy, i will put some gear in a back pack and have on hand as well.....instead of stuffing everything in my seat. i leave the back pack in the sled outside of the shanty and is ready for use if/when needed.

I popped my head out the door about an hour ago,,,.. WHOA!! Sounded like it was pouring down rain, but it was just the snow and ice from the roof. As for the ice on the lakes,,, I would doubt we'll even lose an inch of ice. This little warm up is the best thing that ever coulda happeded. Get that ice in great shape for the "stretch run"..

Creepers are the word of the day..........don't be a victim of slick ice..

sat on the ice all day today and literally watched the snow leave the ice. The water ran down every hole I punched. The fish were super finicky today. 10 gills in 8 hrs of work. Didnt get cold but man that wind sucked.

I think that I'll try again this morning. It never got below freezing last night and it's still 35 this morning. I think the ice is gunna have bunches of water on it this morning. Hard to believe this is the first week in Feb.

We found the same thing Fred - super finicky fish. Beautiful day and the wind died down here in the late afternoon though. Ice fishing on a 50 degree day

no water on the ice. Just real slippery ice. The fish were SUPER finicky again today. I begged 11 keepers out of the hole(s). Had to hole hop to get those. I hope the temps drops down tonight.

Days like we are having generally call for a mid wieght fleece under a wind breaker. I'll put my heaver coat in the back pack and for the legs long jons and jeans then rain pants. Of course, spikes on the boots. Works great for the walks without dying from sweat. Also if it's bearable I'll put the gloves in my pocket and walk out with out them on my hands to keep my gloves from getting saturated.
