View Full Version : Dove hunting
Was looking at one of the animal rights web pages last night to see what they are all up to. NOticed that they are really pushing all their supporters to write in against the dove bill here in Michigan. Guess it is suppose to go to the floor in the house on Dec 3rd.
Now, if this thing gets though, we should have a pretty good hunt this coming fall. But, I bet we will see a lawsuit to stop the season if it does pass. IF it turns out like what happened in Wisconsin, then we are screwed. The only real way we will get this thing passed is if we take it to the voters of the state. That is what Ohio did and the passed it by a pretty good margin. People there just got sick of the animal rights, untrue propaganda.

You can thank the audubon society for the fact that we don't already have a dove season. It was all set afew years ago and the put a stop to it with a law suit. I have no use for them since the state president told the farmers at a meeting up here." tough shoot you can feed our sandhill cranes cause we want them." He was really shocked when I told him to "put his money where his mouth was and plant some food for his cranes and get them off the farmers back".

Where should be be writing our emails as hunter to to support a season? Even though we dont have alot of people on this sight we should all still write a letter.
The reason we lost the last time around was due to Michigan's apathatic hunters......the other side was louder than us. I hope we do better this time.

Like I said in a earlier post about this.
I really don't think it will happen here.
I love to hunt doves. Grew up hunting them in Arkansas when I was a kid. There alot of fun plus it gives you another good excuse to have a dog:D
But whith the way our hunting community is we would be lucky to ever get it passed. Heck we couldn't even keep (HER) out of office.....
I'm sure they wouldn't try to run this bill through, if it didn't have a chance.....their are many representatives who are on their way out, who might vote with us now. We only lost by one vote last time.
One_Eye, Contact your reps and tell them you want a dove season. You can even contact other reps and do the same. The last time around I E-mailed every rep in the state.

I just received an e mail back from my House Rep on the subject. He supports it (HB5478 which would give the power to establish seasons to the NRC) but he told me that he was not sure if the bill would be voted on before the end of the session.
It is on the agenda but that does not mean the bill will even make it to the floor. We all need to let our state house reps know we support HB 5478 and that we WANT it voted on. Otherwise we are back to square one next year.
Interesting side note, I contacted Cameron Brown, the sponsor of the bill. I was confused why he sposored this bill yet he voted AGAINST the dove legalization bill two years ago. He said he voted against it because he did not think it should be up to legislators to decide.
Just a note on the Wisconsin problem mentioned earlier. . . Wisconsin is where we were 15 years ago. . . the judge ruled that only their legislature can create a dove season. It was the same decision that submarined our season that was briefly on the books.
