That's how I made my shanty and I've been using it since late 80's. It's very good to drive on clean ice and, when we get a few inches of snow, it's not so good to drive on the snow. The entire shanty folds down like clam shanty.

Years ago I saw and ice sled about the size of a go kart with a sprocket used to move it along the ice. Anyone else ever seen this ice sled ? Been looking for plans on one to build. I know where one is but the guys a bit of a fuddy dud about how he made it and won't sell it. Did mention they were a hit back in the day and they raced them. Tried googling it but couldn't get any hits.

Neat looking item Aquarias. Saw a shanty moving along on it's own power last year..........no visible method of drive.........thought I was having flashbacks from the 60's.:16suspect

If you give me a picture, I'm guessing I can make it. Be a nice little project.

Tinman......got a lead on another one. Hope I can track it down. Them little suckers were fast. Seen one match a snow sled one year on the ice. Jr. got a chance to drive one when he was younger........had a ball on it.

To answer the questions, this shanty goes around 15 mph. It steers the same way you'd steer an outboard motor on a boat.

When I was a kid, my dad used to take us out on the lake(ice) and we would see flat bottom alum. boats, like small jon boats, and they had what looked like flywheels that dug into the ice and propelled the boats.
This was in the late 60's, and I don't know what kind of motor they had and they weren't very fast....but sure beat walkin'.
