I have never ice fished Brest Bay but would like to try it on Sunday. My wife just bought me a Vexilar and I want to try it and I don't mind walking 2 miles to get to the fish. Any suggestions for lure type and depth to start fishing?
Thanks

I went sight seeing to Sterling State park last weekend and there was about a dozen guys fishing a few hundred yrds off the beach. They were parked in the beach parking lot. Dont know how they were doing. Saw a few shanties on the backwater to the right of the boat dock. One shantie had some fish on the ice but I couldnt tell what they were. Sorry I have never ice fish it and was just looking around. I imagine if you show up you can see where they are fishing. It was the first lot to the left onthe beach. Knowing the area from boat fishing I would say they were in about 10fow. Let us know how it goes.

I'm trying out there tomorrow morning. I never fished it before either in the winter. I'm going to try about 18 FOW. I'll post if we do any good. :)

Man the fish aren't in the bay like normal yet. We fish all the way out to 31 fow today off Stony Point and just could not get into them. We were within 2 or 3 miles of the turnaround bouy and could see West Sister and Middle Sister island real good. Ice was anywhere from 8-20 inches thick with only one pressure crack to cross. Been along time since ive seen it freeze like this. We were aproxximatly 8 miles out but no fish at all.

Thanks a lot for the report. I still might try it out of Brest Bay marina on Sunday. Can't wait to use my new vexilar.

I'm leaving to head out there in about 10 minutes. Glad to hear the ice conditions are good. The weather and wind look perfect today as well. If anyone else is out there good luck you guys. :)

It's been years since ice fished erie. I am always running to Sag Bay and since I live in Livonia can I ask a few questions for this years ice?
Are you guys running quads/sleds out there?
Where can you launch Sterling (would not be bad if running quads)
decent eye area?.....near stoney?
Any info is appreciated...thx

We went today and walked out about a mile and didn't catch anything. I did get a nice hit though. Didn't get him:banghead3:lol: This was my first time fishing erie. It was WEIIIRD!!!! The ice was plenty thick enough, but sometimes the ice would pop so hard that the water in my hole moved up almost out of the hole and one of the pops kicked up a snow mist:SHOCKED:I enjoyed it though. I'd like to go out there again. Maybe better luck next time.:)
