I have a chance to get a 1977 Artic cat 500 EL Tigre for ice fishing. I might just trade for it and sell the thing. Anyone one guess what it's worth? Or any constant problems with these specific sleds?

I will put the photos in my album.

I agree, I'd say closer to $200 or $300.

I used a '72 Arctic Cat Panther for several years. It came through the family ... so I knew the condition. I had no complaints.

That would be the key. "the condition"

I think when El Tigre came out it was supposed to be a top-end machine.

The old Panther didn't like warm weather and slop. A bit on the heavy side in part due to the wider track and the cleats.

Not sure of the value. I imagine $300 is in the range.

I expect $500 would be the very most. I have seen some junk going for $300 or more on craigslist. They are selling to! I was looking for sleds a little earlier and could not find anything available around $300 that was worth a crap. Sounds like you guys sold them a some very good prices. I will be trading a gun for this. Once I get it, I will decide if I want to sell it or keep it. I know guys are doing real well parting out machines right now. Thanks to the internet is like the worlds largest yard sale. Tracks alone are going for over $150 so the $200 price might be a little low for a good working sled. A price is determined only by what a person is willing to pay. When i talked with the guy about the sled I was pretty firm on my asking offer. I felt it was not worth as much as he wanted.

Thanks for the replies.

Check the track for dry rot, cracks and wear, Its not worth much if the track is bad. Also set the back of the machine up on a block reach up inside the track and grab the drive shaft, Its at the very front and will have 2 nylon or rubber sprockets that turn the track. Try to wiggle it around. It should feel solid. If you can move it around, the bearings and cups where it passes through the tunnel are bad. Parts are cheap but it can be a BIG job to change them.

Track is suppose to be a newer one. Good idea on the drive shaft. I am going to meet him at Hoyles tomorrow to look at it. Might have to take it out on the bay to see if it runs good!

I had a jag about the same year. It was a free air engine. For ice fishing i would try to get a fan cooled or better still a liquid cooled. Not bad in the heart of winter but when it warms up start pulling gear in heavier snow at low speeds and the enginge can heat up in a huury.

It was listed on this site - nothing between it and you but $300. Glad to get them out of the yard, and the buyer was happy (win/win);)
