How long will meat stay good if it is vaccum sealed and frozen?

Cable,

I just bought my FoodSaver two weeks ago....have not had any experience with long term food storage using it.

On the info that they sent with the new device, the manufacturer claims that red meat will keep for 3 years.

I know you can keep fish 6-12 month, it works very well, much better than freezing fillets in water. Very fresh when you take them out.

I have had one for a few years. I now buy everything in bulk. Food lasts much longer and dosn't get freezer burnt. But you have to use the good ones the cheap ones leak air.

I would have to say at least 2-3 years. We vaccuum seal EVERYTHING. I will tell you that it is the bees knees!!

i some times have the problem of a few bag seals comming open...also, does your frozen meat sometimes get all crystally ice inside the bag?

Hangoo-

Try sealing the bag normally, then seal it again after pulling it 1/16" out. I've done smoked fish this way and sometimes I get a little piece of fish that I didn't wipe clear of the sealing path. With two seals, I haven't had any problems yet! Knock on wood!!! That crystallinity is caused by air inside the bag...try running the vacuum longer or doubling the seal. It only takes a pin hole to leak enough air to make meat go bad!
