Who makes the quietest bow out there?
-AND- What kind of bow do you have and how would you rate when it comes to sound characteristics?

Hard to say. There are some decibel tests done each year...AT does a huge test on most new models yearly. People can have opinions, but unless one has the equipment to actually test the noise, they are guessing at best. Not to mention, everyones hearing is different to begin with.
Basically if quiet is your goal, keep draw weight to a minumum, shoot a relatively heavy arrow at moderate speed, and purchase high quality accessories and mount them correctly.

Howdy, Joe-

I really love my Whisper Creek. Shot it along side quite a few others when I was choosing; hand's down the quietest one......

Out of all the bows I've tried, and I tried literally dozens, the center pivot models from Bowtech have been the quietest.

They are all deffinately up at the top, but I would say the General is hands down better in this catagory. I never thought anything could touch my Switchback as far as quiet and smooth til I shot a General. Not real fast like some of the other center-pivots, but if quiet, smooth, no hand shock or vibration is what you seek, nothing comes close to the General...not even the Admiral...

I'd have to agree with you on that one.;)

If the General had a draw curve that matched the way it shot, it would be the cream of the crop. The draw curve is like taking fingernails accross a chalk board. It, and the other centerpivot bows are quiet though. I have not handled an 09's yet so maybe the draw curve has been improved.

Draw curve? Would you explain what that is. Thanks

The term draw curve is a description of the bows draw cycle plotted out on a graph.

I would have to say the general. I recall a test someplace, that said, it came from the factory at 58 decibles...also if I recall, it was almost a full 10 decibles than the next one in line.

I was forced into hunting with a Martin Tracer last fall, I was really unhappy with the noise it produced. I had a drop away on it, and new that didn't help. I had the use of a decible meter, and after a couple hours of playing around, and adding a few pcs of rubber in stratigic locations, I was able to get the noise down to what I call and acceptable level...53 decibles at 10'...

Just for a comparison...the noisest vane I had was at 50 (4" QS, and severely helicaled feathers) the quietest was at 42 decibles (4" straight Duravanes).

Just curious, alot of the Bowtechs come with factory string and cable silencers already attached, are they tested with those on or off. Do they test all these bows bare boned?

Do they test all these bows bare boned?I've been told several things over the years but the closest I've come to a credible answer is from someone at Bowtech that told me the Birth Certificate numbers are from the bow as you receive it in the box.

Limb Saver makes a line of bows that show some impressive IBO speeds. And they come with all the L/S silencing goodies. Ofcourse they say their bows are the quietest. Anyone shot/heard one?

I wouldn't call them pin drop quiet...but were not talken firecracker status either.

Joe, I bought a Mathews S2 last year and couldn't be happier. Pretty darned quite and very smooth draw cycle. I suggest you go test fire one. I would be happy to let you try mine if you want to.

I am not even sure if I will buy a new bow or not, but last summer when I was helping a friend tune his Diamond; I couldn't believe how quiet THAT bow was! It made me realize that this is one area that has undegone drastic improvements since I purchased my Darton Cyclone in 1999. I don't have anything planned for my tax refund at all, and my 18 year old son could really use my Cyclone. To me this might as well be 2 + 2 = "New Bow".
I have always liked Darton, but honestly wasn't blown away when I looked at their web site.
I have never been a real speed freak so any quality bow that is smooth, reliable, and silent could really grab my attention.

So many bows, some are more than others, but does it really matter to us. The deer will hear any of them. While hunting in Alaska for moose, I had just called in a 60+ bull not but 23 yards away standing with only his rear end out from behind a spruce tree. I pulled an arrow out the quiver and snapped it on the string :help:and the bull didn't stop until he was 70 yds away, looked back and trotted off. That snap was foreign to him......how much noise was that! Shoot what feels good and can afford and don't worry about the small stuff.

I posted earlier on this hread about the General...I shot the new "Sentinal" last night and and IMHO it is the General's equal in every way but size and is roughly 10 fps faster. ATA is 36 3/4"...this is a large bow, but if that's what you are looking for this bow is absolutely amazing.

If your are wanting quiet BT is it, for the most part. If you want to quiet your own bow down there is a slue of items from the string tamer, cable slide stopper, limb savers or bowjax, and stickems for the riser. And you can shoot a heavier shaft.

Everyone is going to have different opinions as they're used to hearing what they shoot so they of course are going to be more partial to that bow...It's all personal preferance...

I have a Darton that I've put sting leeches, limbsavers, Stabalizer, and String Suppressor on and it's deff. very quiet...

Whatever gets the job done for you is all that matters....

My Parker Buckhunter XP is pretty stinking loud even with string silencers and a string suppressor and limb savers.
Limbs make a loud pop when releasing the arrow. Good bow for a beginner. But you get what you pay for. Looking to upgrade this year.

I never realy payed attention to noise, till I got my 08 comander and the people on the line next to me told me how quiet it was. Now I listen to them go off around me.
