Yep guys you read it here first. 77 inchs of pure Michigan bred walleye from the depths of Fremont lake.

The story. I was fishing perch in 42 fow and seen the Lowrance just lite up like crazy about 3 to 4 feet off the bottom. I was using a rat finky and perch minnow and pulled it up to about 3 1/2 feet off the bottom and bam the fight was on. It was nip and tuck for a while and finally up came the walleye........

Well it was 77 inches of walleye except I caught 11 walleye as fast as I could re-bait and get back down to 40 foot. 11 walleye each one being 7 inches long. :yikes:

Pulled the first one up and it looked like a smelt.....actually about the same size..... Opened the shanty up to get some light on it and sure enough it was a teeny weeny walleye.............. Each one released and each one took off back to the depths none the worse for wear..

Guess in a year or so it might be back to gang busters on the freek.....:coolgleam

I thought everyone give up fishing the freek. I myself thought about trying it this weekend. The pike on Hardy are taking a toll on my jigging raps.

How many perch did you catch?

Were you really even fishing for perch or were you pretending to fish for perch and actually fishing for walleye but afraid to admit it?

Actually was trying for perch Wes. Had tried 15 foot a little earlier and couldn't so much as raise a dink so decided to move a tad deeper......42 fow is where I ended up. Took a few minutes and the perch arrived, the regular freek dinks with one 7 1/2 in. perch thrown in......plus the 11 eyes. This was all on the south west side and just east of the sunken island....... Boy that lake sure has turned off in the last 2 weeks..........

Its a tough time of year. I dont really like February until the end.
I know guys who have done well this winter but from my experience and what they said its a pretty specific game. A few feet to deep or a few feet to shallow and your skunked.

I would think that shallower would be better as we get towards the end of Feb as the depths have to have less oxygen with all the biomass in the bottom of that lake.
