sockeyes and coho
Im still waiting to see the run of sockeyes down on the Joe. I heard it starts Feb 31st. The Chum run won't peak until the grayling are done spawning though.....
:lol::yikes::yikes::yikes:
And the coho run in MI and AK doesn't even come close to the run that Trail, Salt, and Lil Cal gets down in Indiana....

then you obviously have no idea about the run there.:lol: no offense but i don't think indiana even comes close to the run in alaska. nearly 30,000 salmon can be counted on the sonar grid going up the kenai river in 1 day. according to indiana fish and game only 3,638 fish salmon were caught in the run

Traffic Control, this is Flight 41, am I clear for landing? Cuz, this one is clearly flying over your head. Quest is being sarcastic, I think it might have something to do with the "sockeye" part, but I'm not sure. :)

You can't even begin to compare the 2 fisheries, they differ that much.

the best location by far is the wabash river system. they peak in there around mid january and usually stay around until the end of march:dizzy:

That is a true statement.
personally I thought the silvers out there tasted better than sockeyes, but maybe it was because I got sick of them from eating it nearly every day for 4 weeks...:dizzy:

The kenai/russian does get a large run of sockeyes, but it isn't the largest run in the state, the Kvichak gets the largest run in the WORLD. At the peak of the run it gets up to 600,000 in a day.

IMO - Michigan has as good of a King Fishery as Bristol Bay region in AK. But that is it, and the two King Fisheries are vastly different. The fish are vasty different being only distant cousins at best.

You idiots need to go to http://www.alaskaoutdoorjournal.com/index.html Check the run charts for the kenai, russian river for kings, coho, reds (sockeyes). These 2 river systems can be accessed by any angler. And where in mi can you catch 90lb kings. I lived in alsaka for 4 years and caught and released hundreds of fish(kings, reds, silvers, pinks, chum, and anything else you can think of). So in no way can you compare michigan to Alaska. Cant even compare it to Oregon.

You idiots
I've been to Alaska and the parents up there do raise their children properly. The people are friendly and respectful..................but there are always exceptions.

And you have never been combat fishing at Ship Creek or the Russian River. And if you have you wouldnt of said that.

Have spent plenty of time combat fishing in Michigan and have fished the Russian, does not change my opinion one bit
Might be, you get what you give, and if your post is any indication of what yoiu give, I can see where our views would be different.

Comparing Alaska to Michigan in terms of salmon runs is like comparing the Pere Marquette's trout fishing to the Saginaw River's. There is no point even discussing the differences because they are so vast.
However the only truly worthwhile reason to go to Alaska is to get away from the crowds, which is very easy to do. In Michigan, getting away from the crowds isn't so easy, especially on the PM during the salmon run.
5 types of salmon with rainbows, dolly varden, sea run char and grayling. On second thought, Alaska is just like Michigan.:dizzy:

You can not beat Alaska. A couple years ago me and by buddy went up there on a grizzly hunt, we got up to Anchorage a couple days early, so we went to a store like a k-mart bought cheep fishing rods and tackle we drove a hour or so out side anchorage to a river that was next to the highway were we could park. One fish after anouther we caught so many pinks it was starting to seem like work. No Joke, no other people around we, we were right next to main highway. Late sept. was time of year even seen a couple kings swiming by they looked like sharks. One day we took a drive to a town I think the name was Seward any way came to a creek that you could smell for miles we got out of the car on the bridge to take a look there must of been a billion dead fish on the bottom of that creek. So I really cant see how any one can compare the two, Its just not possible.

Worse part is I HAVE been combat fishing on the Russian. Mostly Kenai, but even that can get crazy sometimes. I was just wondering what all of you thought.....Can't wait for summer!
