Going out to Sand Lake and was wondering where my best bet was to catch some crappie and maybe a walleye. Headed out last Tuesday right out in front of the public launch and got 1 nice crappie for about 4 hours of fishing. Can anyone steer me towards the right direction and baits/lures to use on this lake. Ive been a few times and have been getting shutout. Thanks for the help, Chris.

You know, I've been fishing Sand Lake for a few years now in the winter, and it seems like every trip is different. I keep moving until I catch the fish...but the next day may produce nothing where I was successful the night/day before. I generally start out about 150-200 yards out and to the left of the boat launch. There are some sand bars in that area where you "may" pick up some perch. I usually move west from there...and keep moving (10-20 feet deep) until I pick them up. I haven't picked up the "big numbers" of specs on Sand like I usually do on Vineyard, but the fish are genrally bigger.

When all else fails...follow the locals! If you watch where people are fishing during the week...you'll find the locals congregated on the fish. Join the crowd.

Sand Lake in Irish Hills area (near Wamplers Lake, Mich Int. Speedway) is where he is talking about.
