there are a ton of boats in higgins. I have been down on a lot of them. . some were purposly put there, but the majority of them didnt end up there on purpose. . and about every one including a good size pontoon hold fish liek this. . last time I was in higgins, there was a school of walleye on the boat i was diving on. pretty fun. .

My parents used to have a place on the South East end of Higgins we would catch those rock bass all day long, it was fun fishing but annoying if you were trying to get perch. I remember hearing people talk about the horse in the water by flag point never saw it though. There are walleye in that lake but they are few and far between.

There is definately not any number of walleye in Higgins Lake if at all. But yup, the fish in the video are rock bass.....I see huge schools like that snorkeling around the trees on my lake in the summer time. It's a lot of fun to jump in and check out what you are casting to.

Last spring iwas trolling in about 30-60 ft of water when my downrigger caught somthing on the bottom i had to put the boat in reverse to get it unhooked. When i pulled up my ball a piece of rope was attached and i went to pull the rope it wouldnt move, so i fished over what ever was down their and rock bass after rock bass i caught.... but had no GPS to mark it .....

If you were in front of little creek near the drop off thats where the video was made. That is the dive training area, It actually has 2 other structures conected with a rope course. As was mentioned before the horse is on flag point.

I know of 6 other boats in the lake, one is just north of west shore smelt town and another is near smelt town at the north state park. My favorite is the old model T ford on the east side of the south basin. There are also many fish structures in the lake. many are shown on the DNR lake map. Another thing I have been working on is the milfoil beds.;) All of the structures hold lots of fish, some have perch, pike etc.

As far as walleye, I have heard of a few over the years. Sounds like outdoor mike found theyre hiding spot. I have also caught a couple blue gills in the past. There has also been a few trout caught in Houghton Lake. It is believed that some fish pass back and forth through big creek during spawning, That is suspected of being the source of the pike also.

The spots are out there you just have to find them!:D

I have heard of walleye caught in Marl Lake and I have seen a large walleye about 3/4 mile down from Marl Lake in the Cut River...but Ihave never heard of a walleye caught in Higgins, not to say they are not there in Higgins.

The Model T is forever a rust spot now, at least the spot I knew, we used to fish around it during first ice inthe early 80's.

Cool video. I liked how the fish didn't scatter when the divers were filming. Now as for the ship wrecks oops I mean pleasure craft wrecks that is a cool home for our fine finned friends. But don't the D.N.R. make people remove their sunken atvs Like four wheelers, boats, snowmobiles and such? Just a thought Gary

If you like rock bass Higgins is tops in this state-most of the rock bass pictured I bet closer to 8 inches, I and kids have caught some huge rocks out of here and most we catch are 8 plus evertime. I know a few guys that eat them and love them out of Higgins. Nice video.
