With the vast majority of the threads about LSC lately, I thought I would create an outlet for people on Erie and the DR. Tell us when you went out and how you did. (Feel free to leave out the where, cuz I will)

So here is a little report from downriver: Fished today (1-23) from 4-6pm at the "super secret spot". Was in 3-4' water with visibility almost to the bottom. Had schools of perch swim thru, about 6-8 of them at a time, various sizes.

What was funny about the whole thing is that I watched 2 or 3 hogs come in together, sit inches from my bait for a few moments like they were going to strike, but just turn and swim away. This happened multiple times. Anyone else have this problem?

I ended up throwing back a handfull of dinks and 2 keepers.

Us downriver boys need some reports for sure, I have been fishing all over the marinas, smaller bays, and canals with mixed results. Some days I hit gills other I hit perch, and some days nadda. Ice is good, to thick IMO. Will be downriver all day tomorrow trying all the spots until I find em. Hope to see some fellow MS members out there.

got 85 between 4 guys on thursday between 2 oclock and dark went back yesterday morning 2 guys 46 keepers. nothing huge but all 7-9 inchers. thursday we used all minnows, friday they quit hittin minnows and wanted wax worms and we had to hop from spot to spot. as soon as you were at a hole with fish in it youd pull in 3 or 4 quick ones. my buddy got 14 fish in id say under 5 minutes out of one hole. probably be back out tomorrow.

We have been hitting fish probably every other time out. I guess 50% isn't that bad considering when we do get into em, getting good fish. Like the thread idea, there are alot of us 'RiverRats' on the board.:)

Went behind the hospital today from about 1 until 3:45 with my 10 year old. Caught one small perch that could have been mistaken as a minnow...

Think we will try someplace else tomorrow but not sure where. Any ideas?

Would it help if I said I was a newbie and am taking my son again?!?!?!

You can try the Lake Erie Metro Park Marina. Its a hot and cold place, but a few have been doing good here and there. Its a short walk as well and protected from wind. Good luck!:)

4 of us fished the Elba Mar boat club marina Sat morning. Out by the mouth of the marina it was minnow city and I am not kidding, there were literally thousands of minnows swimming around. We didn't have any luck there so we moved farther into the marina, oddly enough the fish would not hit minnows, waxworms and red eurolarve were the ones that got the bites. I was putting like 3 reds on my jig and holding it about halfway off the bottom and really pounding the jig, had a few perch come in but nothing of any size really. Only really good thing for the day was I think we found an easier way to access APB! Heard that it is a little slow out there right now so we are headed out to Irish Hills area to try the Walleye spot!
Tight Lines to all!

Last year was a great year for wyandotte hospital with kids catching dinks. This year I havnt found a whole lot of dinks there to keep the young ones occupied. I would suggest the metro park marina, BUT not if you are taking the kids. The metro park is very crowded and you get alot of different types there. See thread: teaching my son the F word. I posted a story in there as well.

Anyways, glad to here yours found something fun to do out on the ice!

This is my first season of seriouse ice fishing. I've been hiiting EM on wednesdays and then makeing a trip on thurs. every week. At Erie I've been doing okay but I had a question and a little rant. I've been hitting perch in the main channel and around the docks and havent ventured out farther yet. I'm thinking of trying further out into the residential canals for gills or crappie. Is that where you're likely to find something other than perch? Don't get me wrong I love perch but I've really got a yen to catch some crappie. Have'nt hauled any of them through a hole yet. Any way to rant, I can move to get away from the idiots and foulmouths but I'm getting sick of augering up bits of butts when I drill a hole Is it to much to ask for guys to police up there butts. I guess it is.

My buddy and i fished this afternoon at the hospital ...nothing. Went further downriver and went to another spot we caught 14 perch and 32 bluegill on wax worms. We watched an airboat skim across the water to the ice and stir up 100's of ducks. Very cool to see , wishing it was still quacker season.

Erie metro park has always been funny like that. It can be clear one day and nasty-dirty the next. This is just like the fish. When they are there...Wow. But when they're not......:dizzy:

Down River fishing Report: Went out again (1/27/09 4pm-7pm 3-4 FOW) Caught lots of dinks, partner got 1 keeper. Threw wax worms and minnows at them. Fish were slugish and not very interested. Considering new tactics.

Good job Mike, glad to see you get into some fish! Tried a spot further south of me and found fish! Dam things had lock jaw though. Saw a bunch of slobs slide thru the holes, but no dice. We just threw shiners at em, some of the other guys we talked to were using shiners and some were using wigglers, same results...lock jaw. Interestingly enough, we found baitfish....by the thousands, shiners. Huge schools would move thru about every twenty minutes and have the entire screen on my Lowarnce go yellow and red. I thought my unit was messed up till a dozen shiners pushed up into my hole and started to flip out onto the ice. Weirdest thing I have seen this year. Anyways, as the schools would pass by I could pick up bigger contacts within the schools. I would assume some perch, rockbass, pike and anything else gorging themselves. Perhaps that is why they had lockjaw. I would have thought a struggling shiner dropped thru the school would have picked something off. Anyways, good luck this weekend I am heading to Oscoda on Friday. Hope to have a good report from the North when I get back.

Hit the bay for the first time today. Moved 3 times. Thought we had them on the 2nd spot. Pulled a 9" almost as soon as we sat down. Didn't see another fish. Fished from 8:00 until 1:00 with only one fish to show. Did see lots of shiners down the hole. Shoulda brough a net to scoop them out for bait.

How deep Todd?

soggybtmboys
02-04-2009, 06:35 PM
Most of the Bay is about 4 ft deep. It will range from depths of 3 ft to 6 ft at most. It does get deeper as you get towards the channel, but you will not really be in the bay any longer.

How deep Todd?

We started on the edge of the channel in 5 FOW where I had some luck last year. Moved into the bay more into 4FOW, then moved out of the bay in front of the island in 3FOW. We were about 200 yds out from the Teepee shanty that is set up. Closest group to the lake.

Looking to go fishing

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Im new to ice fishing and was looking for someone to take me saturday. Dont have any gear but i will buy what i need so if anyone wants to take me and teach me the basics I would appreciate that. I dont have a sled or quad yet but I dont want to walk 2 miles to go fish either so I will buy bait And pay for my expenses and fuel and bait and if you happen to have a quad or sled you can rent me that would be cool .
