I have a black Lab 3 1/2 years old hes a great dog and just starting to seriously hunt. He is the most beautiful Black Lab I have ever seen, he is great with kids and is a real nice dog. Remington is fully papered and has sired 2 litters, all colors and mostly females. He has one problem he urinates in the house and my wife says he has to go!!!!! I called the vet about neudering him and they said he is set in his ways and probably will not stop marking his territory. He is FREE to a good home or preferably a farm. Let me know if anyone can help!!!!:( I will be sorry to see him go but its him or my wife:confused:

Steveboss, I'm sure your going to miss your wife, But a good dog is harder to replace than a wife:D
The vet is right. You can't get a teenager to go back to the farm once he has seen the lights of the city
If you don't have one already get a kennel. If you have to leave the dog unsupervised in the house put him in the kennel. Don't use it as punisment but he'll not soil his sleeping area. as time goes on he'll stop marking in the house. it's just a matter of potty training, Also any place he has marked you need to either mark over his spot:eek: or get a bottle of desenting spray from your local pet mart. it won't take all that long. and crating him is cruel
good luck

Heavy is right on the money. Had a lab, same thing. Got a big (big) kennel cage and lo and behold - he stopped. His name was Tar, unfortunately he is gone now but he turned out to be one of the best dogs I ever had. Not his fault, we did not teach him right. Vet turned me on to this and it worked within two weeks. Now let me tell you about the time he ate the arm rest off our couch - again our fault, left him for ten minutes as a pup. :D

Dumb question but one I am confused on.
What if any Difference is there between Kennel's(cage) and Crate Training?
I have assumed they are the samething. I kinda got a nasty e-mail from some one i was trying to get a lab fromwho basically said I was lower than Wahle **** cause I told them I believed in Crate training.
My concept of Crate training is you put the puppy in there and close the door every hour or so you take the puppy outside encourage to go potty (House Breaking) After that is accomplished I take the door off and the puppy comes and goes as it see's fit.
Maybe I am just don't get it!

Pushbutton, I wouldn't worry about someone that didn't see the benefits of crate/kennel training.
Welcome to the site and Happy Thanksgiving,

PLEASE PLEASE Try the Kennel thing first.
If that doesn't and you must absolutley get rid of him E-Mail me and I will try and work something out with you. I have a fenced in yard and a friend who has some Reg. Choc. labs and a couple acres.

Icet…Had a lab…His name was Tar… Boy does that bring back great memories as I also had a Lab and his name was Tar. He’s been gone now to his happy hunting grounds for just over a year and a half now. I lasted two weeks without a dog and got a setter.
My setter when he was a pup was trained in under three days to go bathroom outside. I did it by picking him up while he was in process and hauling him outside, all the while he was leaving pee and marble trails through the living room and out the door. Outside bathroom I cried, outside bathroom!
How was I able to keep an eye on him the whole time I hear you asking? When I brought him home at eight weeks old, I thought what did I get myself into? Jeesh, I forgot what a pup was like, this pup had energy and impishness with a lot to spare. So the only way I could keep an eye on him was to put him on a twenty-five foot cord. He stayed on that cord for darn close to 8 months tethered to me while he was in the house.
Well, it worked for me. However it is pretty tough to carry out a fully grown dog. Yes I would agree with everyone else. Most dog training books recommend crating to break bathroom problems so I would do just that. Your Lab needs to realize that the house is not territory for him to mark, it is your territory. You’re the Master but he may think you are equal to him thus the problem.
Engsetter: I've held off responding as the memory of that name brought tears to my eyes. I was a young guy when I had Tar and I still miss that dog many years later. We have a couple of dogs now and they have captured my heart but not like that dog. I swear Tar could read my mind. I still wonder who was the dog and who was the master. Spent many happy hours hunting, fishing and boating with him. I cried like a baby when that dog died. I meant the end of my youth and I learned that sooner or later all things leave but how important it is to make good memories while you have them to make. Sounds like quite an adventure with your new dog. Eight months is a long time but I'm sure you bonded pretty good being that closely tied together. Good hearing the story.

I have good news:D I went tonight and met with Steveboss and his Dog. :D :D I thinkI haven fallen helplessly in love with him.:D :D :D He is even more Beautiful the Steveboss Described.
I have a 5 month old Female lab/mix who is 1/3 the size of Rem. They were playing tonight. It was amazing to watch him play and yet be so very gentle with her so as not to hurt her. If I didn't know any better I swear I saw him KISS her. I think this is going to be a good thing.
I will keep you all posted. And for those who didn't want him all I can say is :p
Pushbutton2: Wishing you all the best with the dog. I think you are in love. Please as you stated; keep us informed as to the progress. I know you will make it happen.

I am the luckiest guyt in the world. Remington is a wonderful dog. He is a BIG dog but gentle as a Lamb. He loves to Cuddle and Kiss you. He is obedient. I know Steve spent a lot of time training him. Ihoipe to have him ready next fall for Pheasant Season so we can go HUNTING.
I kind of hate to keep posting here. I would not want Steve to feel TERRIBLE about gettting rid of him. I know it BROKE his heart when I brought him to my house to live.
I have been looking for a companion like him since Early spring. I am a true believer in the saying that good things come to those who wait. I don't think I can say THANK YOU enough to SteveBoss.
The good lord has truly smiled upon me!!

Things are going well here. Remington is fitting in well. Our Puppy thinks he is her persoanl Chew Toy. He doesn't seem to mind to much though. Every now and then He will get after her and retreat to his cage for some releif. When he does she tries to Follow him and I have to stop her from bothering him. He seems to like his Cage. I have it a corner on 2 Outside walls so he stays cool. I had it on an iside corner but he Panted a lot like he was hot. So I moved it to the Outside corner and put a blanket in it. He won't lay on the blanket:( but iti is there if he wants it.
He eats dry dog food, I put some Vegetable oil (Canola) on it one day to try and keep his shiny coat. I am guessing that he really likes it, He won't eat if I don't add it. I tried Raw eggs ONE time. It gave him GAS. I won't expound anymore then saying he cleared rooms out:eek:
He is an excellent dog! I plan on trainig him more or Sending him out. I don't think I need a an HRC title on him?? Maybe just a Started?? If the opportunity Arises I might even breed him?? Not sure exactly yet. My main goal right now is to just LOVE him and give him time to become one of the Family. After that I will be posting ALOT more seekimg Info and ideas. So if you all woould just start thinking of good trainers and/or Bitches WE can breed him to I would be Appreciative. I don't want to breed him right yet as I don't have his AKC papers yet. After I get them I am going to Reg. him with UKC as well. Well I guess I rambled on Enough! I will update before X-Mas.
