So it's not Michigan, but a few buddies and I are heading to Lake of the Woods MN for spring break to fish. We have rented a sleeper house out on the lake for three days, and might stay another day to rent a day shack and catch some more fish if we don't feel we have caught enough in the three days we will spend out there. We have already started the planning process, even though it's not until the first week in March, but I figure it's never too early to get a good start on things. We will be taking 3 days worth of food, water, fish frying equipment, but mostly buying tackle there, except I might throw in an order to Ficious before I set out on the 9 hour drive to get there.

My question is, has anyone else done this before? Any tips on what to bring? We are going to be 20 miles out on the ice, so running back in to the store to grab something really isn't an option. Already planning on bringing the radio, cards, beer (a lot), and all of the other stuff, but anything else you could recommend for this trip would be a great help.

(I'll have the camera too, so don't worry about that ;))

I`m sure you guys will have a blast.I took my dad there for a week and we stayed in a sleeper half the time and in a cabin the other half and when I do it again I will stay away from the sleeper. The reason for that is the fishing shuts off at dark.We were real dissapointed in that we thought great, we can fish all day and all night only to find out the water so cloudy they do most of there feeding at night. Not trying to dissapoint but you might want to thank about that one because those sleepers are alot smaller than they look but other than that it was great we caught tons of walleye and saugers. We learned the key was pounding the bottom with a kb jem`n eyes in glow red.tipped with a minnow and as always a flasher is a must.good luck and tight line.

I don't know about those sleepers, but the one I stayed in didn't have "facilities". This year, we are bringing a cheap pop-up blind and a "luggable loo". Cabelas and Bass Pro carry them for around $11. it is a toilet seat that fits on top of a 5 gallon bucket. real life saver ;)

We are booked with Zippel Bay. After reading some of the Minnesota forums, it seemed like they would be good for the price. This is good info guys, thanks. I am making a list of questions that I have and will ask them here probably next week. Keep em coming.
