I took some video a few nights ago to show how to set up the sensitivity and color line when fishing in thick weeds. When you have it set up properly, you'll be able to detect fish outside of the sonar cone as well.

Here's what the screen looked like when I had the sensitivity set around 80%, which is what I normally have it set at when I'm fishing in an area without a lot of weed cover.

Here's what thick weeds look like.

http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/data/500/weeds1.jpg

As you can see, they just about fill the entire screen making it hard to see fish or your jig.

Here's what it looks like when I have the sensitivity and color line set the way I like. This setting will show your bait and fish inside and outside the sonar cone, and keep weed signals from flooding the screen. My minnow is at the 6' level.

http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/data/500/bait3.jpg

In the video I explain how to set your color line and sensitivity to separate fish signals from weeds, and how to see fish outside of the sonar cone. Lines that are at a constant depth and mostly solid, are weeds. Fish outside of the sonar cone show up as a line with a sawtooth shape to it. Fish inside the sonar cone are solid line and mostly yellow and red in color. My minnow shows up as a small line of dots when its sitting still, and more of a solid orange line when I jig it.

I also show what flasher mode looks like and how to adjust the sensitivity for that mode.

I have a few more videos coming as soon as I finish editing the other footage. Maybe I'll shot some Walleye footage this weekend and post that too.

What model is that? Very informative for me watching someone with a clue use it:lol:

Can't wait to get on the ice again and try some more.

It's the M68C. Its really just an X67 with mapping GPS.

nice quality video, I picked up a tip about scrolling up and down the water column while in zoom that I need to try out.

Thanks!

Great Video Ian!!!! I have formally made my switch into chart mode, have gotten pretty comfortable with it now and alot more useful than just the flasher mode. I had it dialed in really good tonight, my brother and I were fishing in 17 FOW and I had it where we could watch all of our baits at the same time, four different jigs at different but near depths. Split screen zoom, adjusted sensitivity and increased the colorline. Got a little frustrated though, dang fish would race in and get on a bait......then it was the Lake Erie Standoff.....sit and STARE!!!!!!!! I think they were mainly big perch by their attitude, wish I would have grabbed some wigglers....I think that may have been the ticket. We only grabbed shiners and were really hoping for some eyes. Better luck next time.

Thanks for taking the time to produce this video. Great stuff. I love my 67. I'm clearly not as good at it as you, but I can get it working well enough to catch fish. I do have trouble with weeds, so this will help a lot. I'm almost 50-yrs old, so factoring in the beer with my age, my memory is about 75-yrs old . Summer is just about long enough that I forget how to use my 67 every winter, and I struggle a little at first-ice. This video will be a great refresher each year. I look forward to your future installments. Thanks much.

Nice video! I have mine ordered now and that just made the wait all the harder. Can't wait to put some slabs on the ice... Luckily my roommate and I just caught a half-dozen good keepers, should hold me over.

Great Video, I have the X102C and haven't got to use it enough to learn it, your video is truly helpful. The deep snow is what is keeping me off this year so far. I am 60 and out of shape and with all the equipment I have I would never make it in this deep snow. One question I have is what to do when someone with a Vex gets next to you . It seems like my unit just goes crazy. What adjustment can I make to clear it up? Maybe my ping speed? What do you do? Thanks, and again nice video.

Turn on the interference reduction in your unit.

Turn on the interference reduction in your unit.

Usually under "SONAR FEATURES" in the menu. Called 'noise reduction'

how do you adjust the sensitivity in chart mode. I can do it in vex mode but can't seem to figure it out in chart mode?

In chart mode, push the menu key once, then select sensitivity. It doesn't have VEX mode, it has FLASHER mode. :)

Those were great thanks for sharing. Do you use a aqua view ever?

ih772

I usually fish at dawn, dusk, and at night for Walleye and crappies so its too dark to use a camera. If I'm fishing during the day I'll sometimes take my aqua view out with me. Its a pain to set up and tear down so I don't use it very often.
