Pike and musky question

What depth do you guys put your minnows while pike and musky fishing. I am fishing in 12 ft water and have one 6ft down and one next to the bottom. Just curious how far down you guys go? I have not hooked any in two days of tipups being out. I just had a false flag a few minutes ago but thats the only action in two days. Any input? I am running one 7" sucker and one large grey with no steel leader, on sanford.

I usually go about 3 and 6 feet below the ice

I personally use shiners for my bait on TU's. This will give a tad more flash in the water.

Now to answer your question. I find where the weed height is and then go from there. Pike will cruise along on weed beds just above em. I try to make the best effort to place the bait about a 1-3ft above the weeds. The one thing you do not want is your bait to be able to get down inside the weeds and hide. The pike will never see em. 2 for 2 on hookups when I went out last night.

OK thanks guys, I just moved up my minnows. we will see what happens. I also just finished braiding a few strands of 12lb flourocarbon to see if it was my steel leaders that were preventing hits. 8" flouro leader and smaller hook, I hope thats the ticket. i will probly break all my fish off but atleast I will get hits. I run braided with 10# mono. A good strong knot will hold it together. Just take your time with em, you'll get them in.

IMO I think a lot of people break off that setup because they horse them in, or the fish shakes it loose rather than breaking it off..
